PhD accreditation - help!

Posted

Am looking into PhD programs in nursing education, and actually am enrolled to start next month at Capella University. However, I have some accreditation questions - can anyone help me....hopefully ASAP before I start classes?

Is it true that the NLNAC (National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission) only accredits programs up to a Master's Degree?

Also, is it true that the CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education) accredits master's and bachelor's degrees?

If the aforementioned statements are correct....who would accredit PhD/DNP/DNSc programs? Truthfully, how important is accreditation for a PhD program?

Thanks in advance!

PhD's are granted by the university as a whole, governed by multi-disciplinary standards. It's a whole other animal than degrees in nursing. That's why the nursing organizations don't accredit them.
