Hello everyone. I have almost made it through my first semester of nursing school- yeahhhh! Next semester I have Pharmacology. Do you have any tips for me? Would it be a good idea to buy the Mosby books that help with learning Pharm? I just don't want to waste my time/money but I have heard that the course is rough....

Yeah, I would get whatever I can. It can be hard. Also, consider purchasing a used edition of Introduction to Clinical Pharmacology by Mary Edmunds. It is specifically written for LPNs for a series called LPN Threads. Reader/user friendly with simple explanations to remember the drugs. Good luck!

hello Nurseontheway, how r ya? congrats on making it thru thr 1st semester of ns. I'm in a similar boat that you r in. I am actually doing pharmacology in my PN classes. as for your questions, yes, I do think that you should get mosby's books to help with ur Pharm. Also, remember not to try to learn all the drugs at one time, it WILL take time and it will not come to you over night. Also, idk if your professor wants this, but put all your meds on index cards. Label them with the drug class at the top, followed by: trade name, generic name, uses/actions, sides/adverse effects, dosage, route, any important notes ( i.e take with food; do not exceed 2400g/day), and drug interactions. Make sure you review the cards any spare time you get. I try to do this for at least 30 mins every night and I find, I retain a lot of info that way... well, I hope this helps and I wish you the very best of luck in nursing school.. let us know how it goes ok?? take care.. :typing:)
