How did ya'll study pharmacology for nclex? cox there are tons of drugs.
The thing that im doing is writing down the drugs that i encounter on a chapter or practice question and
include the moa, route, indication and best time to administer and some common nursing interventions..
do i need to get the kaplan med in a box? is that necessary?

I suggest u do so. The little book provides a more comprehensive review. All the best on your review.

There are pharm hints in the sticky at the top of the forum about NCLEX facts. As a minimum I would study my pharm text and learn one prototype drug for each class.

you can't memorize them all. And I don't think you'll fail just on drugs. Just read carefully and see what the question is asking and go from there. I didn't pay any attention to meds when I studied and passed with 75. Good luck.
thank you and just asking a way to study the concept:bowingpur. got a little bit scared because they increased the percentage for pharmacology.

I didn't study pharm period. The drugs I saw on my test were all things I had seen in school or as an extern.

you can't possibly memorize all the meds out there. but it would help if you make your own notes on drug classification, list a number of drugs under those types, indicated for what, side effects of it and to what it is contraindicated.
half of the drugs i encountered on nclex are unfamiliar to me. but what helped me get through those questions were my own notes that i read over and over. i believe that familiarity is the key.
from my experience, questions with regard to medications are presented with a patient condition. question will be, "Which medication should you double check with the physician?" 2 of the answer choices given would be obviously wrong. with the 2 left, usually they are unfamiliar medications, but those would fall in a particular classification that is familiar to you.
good luck!:)

Thank you so much! . I was not good in pharmacology, even in my first exam I got a "below passing" on that concept. Your advice will help me...Big time!
