Pharmacology designated CME

Hi! I'm cranking out some online education credits in anticipation of re-cert later this year. I've been really happy with some of the free on-line or app options (medscape, epocrates), and a lot of these CMEs are very pharmacology oriented, however they don't specify a pharmacology designation...

Wondering if anyone has a preferred app or site they use to obtain pharm-designated CMEs? Also, this is my first time going through the certification process--can anyone w/ experience speak to how pharm content is confirmed? I mean, a lot of the CMEs I've collected are fairly obvious in their pharmacology-orientation. Can I just designate them myself when I collate my ANCC re-cert application?

I have a feeling the answer to that is no (because that would be too easy).

If there is a site or app you know of that isn't free, but you find to be excellent and worth the expense (for the knowledge--not just for the credit, which is meaningless without knowledge), I'd appreciate those suggestions as well.

Just want to hear your thoughts. (Will also confirm w/ ANCC)

ANCC tells you how much CME has to be approved by them and how much can be from other sources. I use APNA for some pharm credit. I don't know if you have to have prove unless they ask you to pony up.

I recently got my 5-year renewal from ANCC. It's my second time renewing. The process is better this time around. You create an on-line account with ANCC and you manually log your CME credits in. I made it a point to renew before the year 2013 is over although my certification does not expire until April 2014. You may renew 6 months ahead per ANCC. The reason I did that is because I wanted to avoid the headache of figuring out Pharmacology credits which became a requirement in 2014.

To answer your question, you will have to manually indicate your Pharmacology credits in the CME log by honor system. This, however, needs to be verifiable in case you get audited. If you attend a CME activity offered by AANP or ANCC, the amount of Pharmacology credit is already indicated on the certificate you get. I personally have many CME's from physician groups (SCCM, my hospital's office of CME) and the certificates don't say how much of the credits go toward Pharmacology.

I would recommend making sure you have a Pharmacology-centered CME activity at least once in the 5-year renewal period in order to make sure you meet the ANCC requirement. There are many companies that offer them and they are specific to NP practice.

Does Audio Digest break down the credits into how much go toward Pharmacology?
