Hi everyone:
can someone please give me an advise on whether I should take the pharmacology class before or after I start nursing school? This course is not one of the classes to take during the nursing program, so I rather get it out of the way, but I was told I would be too confused in the class not knowing the basic yet.
any help is greatly appreciated! thanks!

If you want to take courses before starting nursing school, i would advise on A&P (both parts, as this will take a HUGE load off your first year, I did this!!!) or statistics/whatever math program your nursing program consists of.
You need A&P to understand the majority of pharma, and you'll be using it a lot while in nursing, so it's not something you want to forget. I would def. reccommend you take A&P!
Oh. I took those classes already. I am accepted to the Spring 11 program, just wondering if I should take this class during Fall to get it out of the way. thanks!

As long as you have taken A&P I would go for it. You may have to work a little harder because you are not in the nursing part yet and there maybe a few things you don't understand but then you will already know it for later on when you are in the nursing classes. If it will take some of the load off after you have started nursing classes then go for it for sure!! Good Luck!! :)

I would recommend you not take pharmacology until after you've started your clinicals. It's a lot easier to grasp when you are researching the drugs you give to your patients and their effects at the same time.

I took Pharmacology before starting clinicals (it was a pre-req for my ABSN program), and it went well. As long as you've taken patho, I don't see why it would be a problem. It seems to me that it would be helpful to have some familiarity with drugs before clinicals..

At my school, pharmacology is PART of the nursing curriculum so we can't take it ahead of time. It is taken first semester with Fundamentals.

At our school we take pharm with fundamentals as well. But, They offer an intro to pharm class that I am taking this semester to try and get a leg up on pharm since I have heard it is a very hard class. If taking it now would make things easier for you in the future I would go for it!
My school didn't used to have a pharm class at all. I'm told it was "incorporated" into the curriculum. Its been added back for this year, 2 credit hours.
Yeah, its the same for us here, which is why i suggested A&P... It's taken during term 4 of the first year.
A lot of girls in my class who were on a waiting list, took lifespan, pharma, and a few other courses at our school or at the nearby university, and when they changed our BN program from 4 to 3 years (added a term each year) they said they would only accept certain programs. We're only allowed to take A&P, and stats outside of the program, otherwise they won't even count it... I understand if they're changing the material a little, but they couldn't have changed it that much...
