Personal opinions Lpn vs Rn Roles!!!

Am just curious... I would love to know honest opinions concerning the roles of the Lpn vs the Rn. I know it varies state to state but I love to hear what you all think the difference is concerning the scope of practice and respect of each one.

As far as respect goes. I have just as much respect for RN LPN or PCA. We all have a role to do and the combination of efforts makes it successful. The LPN's that I work with are as knowledgeable as I am (RN). They let me know if our patient's that we share need anything that they are unable to provide. Where I work LPN's are not able to do IVP , insert NG tubes.

RN LPNs each have their separate rolls each set by their individual state (governed by RN's) and the set by the facility policy. There are facility policies that do not allow certain procedures etc because they don't want to have to keep up with the competencies that accompany having LPNs perform certain duties.

I think we all play a vital roll in the care of our patients each interdependent on each other. We ALL deserve all the respect we can get.....It's a hard job.

I think it is very dependent on the state. In my previous state of work, the LPN could do almost everything I could. I handled admissions because of the assessment. I did all patient assessments. I hung blood. She started IVs, did IV meds that weren't IVP... she taught me so much!

My current facility pretty much lets LPNs pass P.O. meds. Do sugars/insulin. Some IV stuff but RNs do most of it. They are pretty great at it though for the most part. I love having an LPN.
