Hello!
I am about to transition into my active duty position as a Navy Nurse and I was just wondering if it was against the rules of the Navy to also find a per diem job on the side in the civilian world. Thank you!

You can absolutely get a per diem job while on active duty. Many people do it. However, you'll need to buy your own Liability Insurance, because the government won't cover you. You'll also need approval from your local chain of command. Typically, the chief nurse at your facility is the approval authority.
Awesome!! Thank you so much!!

In the Army we had to submit a memo, obtain written permission from our Deputy Commander for Nursing, and also submit our outside hours worked to the DCN.
Would you say it's the military's way of discouraging people from doing it? By making it a complicated process?
No, it's a matter of maintaining accountability of your troops and ensuring that their readiness for military duty is not compromised by outside work. Military is a 24x7 commitment, and they are just protecting their assets.
