Hi all. I was just wondering if people are starting to see movement in the nursing job market, especially for new grads.
Thanks,

I have at least 15 classmates who found full time hospital floor jobs. I wasn't one of the lucky ones. But maybe I'll get in for the next round of orientation.
15 out of how many?

I really dont see it getting better any time soon. There are jobs out there, we just have to know how and where to look I guess
out of 60, august 2010 grads.
I didn't keep tabs on everyone, these are the ones I know of.

not in OR had a class of 77, graduated in June, 10 got jobs in the hospitals locally within a few months of graduation, 7 more have gotten jobs in the hospital within the last couple of months 3 moved out of state and got jobs in the hospital a couple have gotten clinic jobs, 15-20 of us have gotten jobs in LTC and home health. 7 months after graduation and I know that there are still some of my peers who are having a hard time even getting interviews

I graduated Dec. 2010, I got offered for a position in a large teaching hospital in Washington DC for a new grad residency program. My classmates however are having a difficult time still.
I think the best thing to do is find a new grad residency/fellowship.

To be honest, I think the fixation on new grad residencies/fellowships kept me from some promising opportunities in hospitals that were hiring new grads but not advertising the positions as "residencies." Just apply to every hospital in your area, whether they're advertising or not, whether they say they take new grads or not.
Jeanette73 is right! What I have seen recently is a lot of residencies/fellowships opening up, but its moreso for the 2011 grads. A few are willing to take apps from students who graduated as of May 2010, but trust, you will not be 1st pick. Residency programs are ideal yet highly more competitive than applying for a staff RN position at a hospital. Honestly, because of the recession, our normal ways of searching for work needs to be revamped. Every non-working day beyond your licensure date is critical. Wherever there is work, JUST TAKE IT! Once you can put on your resume experience under the title of an RN, then you'll be able to open closed doors. Good Luck to Everyone!

If you check out Monster, Career Builder or Indeed. com the home health and LTC areas are always hiring. But in a hospital you may have to take whatever you can find to get your foot in the door. Good Luck.

I think things are definitely looking up. I was prepared to be looking for a nursing job for at least a few months when I graduated (last month) due to the experiences some of my classmates who had graduated in May had. However, I managed to get two job offers from the two interviews I went to- I did my homework on the facility, asked lots of smart questions to show I was prepared for my first job, and always followed up after the interview. My persistence and enthusiasm got me a job less than a month after graduation, and before I've even taken boards. I'm pretty excited! Several of my classmates that I'm close with also already have jobs.
