How to find a job in PA/DE

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

I graded in May and attempted to find a GN position, with no luck and decided to just focus on passing my boards and then applying for RN positions. I passed my boards last week, and have been spending all day everyday for the last week looking and applying for any fulltime positions I can find. There are not many! I work at a local community hospital as an NA and the only reason I'm working there (and have been this entire year) was so i could have my 'foot in the door' when I needed a job. Well, no luck with that either.

I was curious if I should suck it up and start applying to positions i REALLY dont want (such as night shift, or ED) or if I should just wait it out and assume that something will open up that is more appealing to me. I"m afraid that if I take a job that i know i wont like (aka a night shift position) that I'll just be a miserable human being or that I'll get stuck in that position/hospital.

Are other people experiencing this same thing?

I'm from southeastern PA

Thanks,

Lindsey

yes i am experiencing the same thing...its quite a different story from last year where you could have gotten a job in any specialty, any hospital, any shift with a 15000$ sign on bonus....i gave up on the GN thing and i am waiting to just take my test like you. i have considered that i might have to work at a nursing home for awhile until i get my 1yr experience that every non-nursing home job like hospitals seem to ask for and then just keep searching...dont know what to say.i feel like it will better within 6 months to a year but who knows. i cant believe that after all i went through to get my BSN that the best i will probablly get is a job that an LPN could do...and I did a hospital externship too. Good Luck!

Specializes in He who hesitates is probably right....

There appear to be plenty of RN positions at Pittsburgh hospitals, we just hired 6 GNs to our ICU. You would have to rotate day/night, though. I have never heard of a steady daylight staff nurse position.
