Drexel' s ACE program

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

hi,

I'll be attending 's ace program in september 2006. Just looking for others who have been through the program or are going to start the program. i'm a little nervous becasue i've heard so many things.

Hi Krista and JdNNurse2B,

I am also starting the program in September. I just moved to Philadelphia last week from Lebanon. I also just ordered my uniform. I never knew it could cost that much. I also ordered the math book we have to review.

I'm very nervous and anxious about starting the program. I feel a little at ease knowing that I finally found two people that are going to be going through the same thing as me.

I just graduated in May from Penn State with a BS in Life Science. I was going to go to medical school but I changed my mind and decided to pursue nursing.

Feel free to email me and obtain my aim screenname.

Looking forward to hear from you soon

hi swtegnam,

i'll be joining you, krista and jwan in a few weeks. i ordered my uniform last weekend. you're right...expensive...and i didn't even buy my shoes, yet. i saw a pretty yellow scrub top and navy pants sitting on the counter at the uniform shop and thought 'that must be our uniforms'...next thing i know i'm following one of the employees to a rack of mustard yellow scrub tops...definitely not the yellow i had hoped for, but oh well, we're not definitely not in this to be style icons.

i ordered the math book on amazon and am going to re-up my cpr certification this weekend. i still feel like there's so much left to get together in the next month. i still can't believe i'll be giving my 2 weeks notice at my job next thursday. this suddenly seems to be approaching so quickly. so far i've managed to be more excited than nervous, but that could definitely change come orientation.

keep in touch. see you all at orientation!

btw, does anybody know if we're supposed to send our child abuse clearance certificate to mr. raczkowski? maybe i just looked over something, but i didn't see instructions regarding what to do once we received the document in the mail confirming our clearance.

Its a hard year but definitly doable if you are committed to it. Feel free to ask me any questions! Good luck to all of you

Hi Qtp2t,

We are supposed to send the results of everything in that prepaid envelope that was sent to us with the instructions. I am still waiting on my child abuse clearance then i will be sending everything in.

Jwan and a couple other people already received their schedules. They dont seem that bad. However, I went to check mine and i am still not registered because they only received my transcript this week. So hopefully I wont get horrible class times.

Talk to you soon

Dont worry about getting bad class times because you send in your stuff later than you should. First quarter is split up primarily alphabetically so they prob already have you in a specific class. Theres always a few strays who dont end up being alphabetical, but thats how they are split up :lol2:

I'm scheduled to start the ACE program next month also. However, I feeling a little discouraged because it seems like is a bit disorganized. There were times when I need some info and I had to send out several emails and wait at least 2 to 3 weeks for a reply. For example, there was an issue with one of the required classes I needed to take. It took me 4 months to resolve this issue with Drexel. My first few emails were not answered and the phone calls were never returned. It wasn't until I sent out many emails that they started to look at my problem. Once I got their attention, it only took two days for them to resolve the issue. It was discouraging that it took 4 months of pestering them to see any results.

I read most of the ACE-related posts here and I remember reading that Ms. Breslin called a few people to make sure they are on schedule with their requirements. I never got a such a phone call or anything that would let me know that I was on schedule with everything. After reading the posts here, I decided to email them to ask if I needed to submit anything. A few emails later, they replied saying that they don't have the transcripts I sent a month before. I got this email 2 days before the deadline for the transcripts.

Right now, I'm behind on the requirements. For the last couple of months, I have been having second doubts about entering this program. I wasn't sure if I should still try submit everything or just forget about the ACE program. It just became hard to justify spending so much money for a school that gave me nothing but headaches in the last 8 months.

I still want to do the program. I'm looking forward to meeting my classmates. Hopefully, Drexel gets a little better when the program starts.

cathy,

do you know how long it would take to receive the uniforms once they are ordered? i didn't order the uniforms yet because i haven't had time to go to philly. i guess i should go to philly and order so i can get them soon. around how much should i expect to pay?

also, did you receive the math book you ordered? if you did, how is the math that we need to know? from what i read in that letter, the math is basic college algebra. i'm thinking of not getting the book because i do fairly good in math and i don't know if its necessary to get this book. i want to save as much money as i can, so if i can review the same material from a college algebra or another math book, then i would rather do that.

thanx for your help!!

I'm bumping in.

You can order your uniforms online. That is what I did.

Its www.centraluniforms.com I believe.

You can click on schools/programs (or something like that) andthey have ACE

That way you don't have to wait until you come to Philadelphia.

Hope this helps.

As far as the book goes, its not all algebra and college math. The first 4 or 5 chapters is review: fractions, (adding, dividing, subtracting, multiplying fractions), decimals, metric system, percentages, etc.

Then the rest is medical math, drug dosages, reading abbreviations, etc.

I think you don't necessarily need the fourth edition. The third edition can be found on line fairly cheap.

A friend of mine bought the 3rd edition for 5 bucks.

I personally think right now its a good review and a good start. ( I am not sure all the stuff will be covering in classes)

I would strongly suggest gettting the book even if it is an older edition. But that is just my opinion.

hey everyone,

I'm currently applying for 's Ace program and I was just wondering about the GPA you need to get in, I know they say you need a 2.75 but will they really take ppl with that gpa, I have a 2.8 so i'm kind of nervous about not getting accepted, also for alumni of the program, do you feel you guys were well prepared for the boards. Sorry for all the questions, but I am just really nervous about the program. Thanks.
