DCCC NET Reading Comp Advice Needed

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

Hi everyone,

I am currently on the waiting list for the 2009 Nursing Program at DCCC. I am assuming that I am not going to be offered a seat and therefore want to start preparing to sit for the NET for admission to the 2010 program. I am confident in my Math skills. However, I only got 70% on the Reading Comp section. I have the NET Study Guide. I found it helpful for the math but not so much for the Reading Comp. Can anyone give me some advice on what helped them better prepare for the test? I have been out of high school for over 15 years so these subjects are not fresh in my memory.

Any help anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

It helped me tremendously when I took the NET.

I didn't get in the first year I tried, I got 98 on math but only 63 on reading comp. I am also 15 years out of high school and just really didn't expect the reading comprehension to be so much more difficult than the NET study guide.

What helped me the second time around was that I went to amazon and purchased almost any book that has reading comprehension practice exams. I practiced and practiced and timed myself. I also purchased some books on how to speed up your reading. The reason why I failed the first time was because I simply ran out of time.

Do go to the link I gave you, there are some links there for free online practice tests that will help greatly. Also, a few days prior to the NET I took the online practice test given by Eriworld. It's 15 dollars but it's definitely worth it.

Good luck!

I know you are starting the program this Fall, I'm not sure if you still come onto the message boards... I am hoping you do. I just took the NET last week in hopes of getting accepted into the Fall 2010 program. I got a composite of 91, which I believe is the same as what you go. I got 97 on the math and 85 on reading. I am really confident that I will be offered a seat next year. Out of curiosity, did you apply to Chester County or Main Campus, and are you doing the day or nights/weekends program? Just trying to make sure I have good reason to be confident that I will be getting in... It is so easy to be paranoid. Ya know? Thanks in advance for your reply.

Congrats on such a high score!!! I scored 3 points higher than you on math but 3 points lower than you in reading, but with reading being held higher than math, you did better than me! I am confident that you will be accepted to 2010.

I am in the evening main county program.

Awesome! Thanks so much for replying to my post. Good luck to you! I start A&P I at Downingtown next week. I'm a bit nervous... science was never my strong subject (my father asks if I realize sciences are a HUGE part of nursing lol). I wish you the best.

One thing I just realized, I got a letter from school saying that they're doing away with NET for 2010 admission, and are now using TEAS. Have you checked with Eli to make sure that your score on the NET will be used? I hope so!

You have to be kidding me. Why would they schedule people to sit for the NET if they weren't going to use it?? I just sat for it this past Monday. Ugh... now I'm totally stressed. I wonder why they sent you a letter if you were already in the program but I didn't get anything. Thank you so much for the heads up. I'll have to call him first thing tomorrow.

I learned 2 interesting things today.... #1 is that the TEAS will be the entrance exam that DCCC is going to use for admission starting with the Fall 2011 semester. I pray that I get accepted for 2010.. the TEAS is horrible.

#2... Eli Johnson is no longer with DCCC. I just saw him there about a month ago. Weird.

I am applying for fall 2010 evening in chester county - i got a composite score of 94 (100 math; 88 reading) i am getting nervous that this will not be enough as I am told there are record number of applicants this year - i really can't see getting a better score if i took it again in october, do you get any feedback on scores for this year.

also, how do you like A & P at DCCC - i almost took that class, but am taking it at immaculata online instead.

to lbamom4: i applied at chester county eve/w-end program as well (93% composite). i too am hoping that it's a high enough score. i went to drop off my petition on the first day and there was already a line of people waiting to drop off their applications!

wonder if i should take it again to see if i could score higher? we still have time. i just couldn't be bothered sitting through it again. good luck with a&p! it's not as bad as people make it out to be. i took both courses this summer at main campus. i heard the immaculata a&p is pretty easy. although, i don't understand how it can be taught online? do you have to come in for labs/dissections?

I am now nervous... I got a composite of 91 and thought for sure that would be a safe bet for getting into the program. I can sit for it one more time so I'm going to do that on October 14th. I am taking A&P and have to say the beginning of the class was really hard for me. We're now getting into cells and tissues (bigger stuff) so I feel more comfortable with what we're learning about. Time will tell...

In the net test study guide it says that the written expression section contains 90 multiple choice questions, is this part of your composite score or your reading comprehension score?
