Clinical sites in Philadelphia

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

I'm an Indiana State BSN student and we do clinicals by establishing contracts with local hospitals and doing preceptorships. My husband is Navy and got transferred to Willow Grove. Still not sure if the kids and I will move up there or stay here in DC and have him commute. Anyway, just in case we go I'd like to have an idea of some hospitals that may be potential clinical sites. I know *nothing* about the area but plan on scouting around a bit when we go to take him up there.

It all depends on what school you go to. For example, the nursing school I went to was in downtown Philly, so most of our clinicals were at hospitals in that area. Have you started looking into schools to transfer to?

I don't know any of the hospitals in the Willow Grove area. WG is about 40-45 minutes from center city Philly, IF the traffic is decent. (Which it usually isn't!)

Some Philly hospitals are:

Thomas Jefferson University Hospital

Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania

Methodist Hospital (part of the Jefferson system)

Hahnemann Hospital

Pennsylvania Hospital (part of the HUP system)

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP)

St. Christopher's Hospital for Children

Those are the ones that I can think of immediately...

Thanks for the list Atomicwoman! I'll google them and see what info I can find. I had no idea where to even begin. He will transfer to McGuire AFB a few months after we get there so we'll probably live somewhere in between. PA/NJ border I guess. Still need to go up there and scout around a bit.

GlamGal, I'm not transferring schools. I'm almost done with my BSN at Indiana State and it's a distance program so it will go with me as long as I can find a place to set up clinicals. :)

My bad! I didn't know it was a distant ed program.

You should check out Abington Hospital, that's pretty close to Willow Grove and it's a great hospital. The nurses there are awesome and it's a magnet facility. Also check out Doylestown Hospital and Holy Reedemer Hospital. I don't know anything about Doylestown, but I don't think it's too far from Willow Grove. It's better than driving into the city and dealing with the traffic, paying for parking and gas!

Good luck!

Doylestown is about 10 minutes from Willow Grove. It is a good community hospital with major heart focus. Does not have a nursing program like Abington Hospital---next major hospital nearby so have better chance of clinical site. Doylestown also used as clinical site for RN reentry program run by Montgomery County Community college.
