Abington Dixon School of Nursing

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Hi all,

Wondering if there are any applicants to Abington Memorial Hospitals Dixon School of Nursing for the 2011 year?

I originally applied for 2010 early decision, but ultimately was placed on the waiting list. Because I wasn't accepted for 2010, I now have to re-take A&P 1 & 2  (past the 5 year mark by 2 months on A&PII). I have all of my stuff in for this years early decision and have decided to re-take the teas test.

i'm very bitter about not being accepted because i can't understand why. I had a gpa of 3.8 and my teas scores were good enough for early decision. my only negative comment from them was that I could do a bit better on the math portion. I have been at Manor College since Spring 2010 and am currently holding down a 4.0 GPA- if they don't accept me this year I think I will just go absolutely crazy!

Just wondering if there are any others out there in the same boat....

I am a student at Dixon now. I'd say you should be in good shape for early admission. Good luck!!

are you in that Facebook page they set up?

How are you liking the first few months so far? Anything you would have told yourself a year prior to being accepted? Warnings and such? lol

I am enjoying it very much. You will get out what you put in, as with most things. I would suggest enjoying yourself and your free time now, because it is a lot of work.

Now I'm a little concerned.

Currently I'm in A&P II, I expect an A-, scheduled for Micro in the spring. Right now I have a 4.0, which will obviously go down a little if I do get an A- as expected. On the TEAS test I scored very well. My only concern was some nonsense I pulled with previous college classes, over 10 years ago, of which NONE are the pre-reqs Dixon requires, but they still have seen those transcripts.

All of my information is in, but I need to resubmit my transcripts after grades are submitted for this semester.

Here I thought I was a shoe-in.

when you have to retake courses do you have to pay for them out of pocket?

Veggie- after i posted this thread i found out some startling news that you may find interesting as well.

I am 26 years old. Right after high school i enrolled in Frankford School of Nursing (now called Aria- full time). I didn't like the school, and being 18 at the time and not having money, I made the decision to drop out. Because I was only there for 6 months and was not doing my best, I got 2 F's, a B, an Incomplete, and a WF (whatever that is).

Flash forward 8 years later- according to Dixon, my GPA has been brought down by my Frankford transcripts, making me ineligible for Early Decision. Angela said that they look into every college course ever taken, and factor that in to your GPA. I am a little frustrated/angry at this point because I feel like now I may not even make it in at all. I mean, how can you penalize someone for something 8 years ago, when i have obviously turned it around and am now holding a 4.0 GPA??

So if I were you, I would call Angela to find out what she recalculated your GPA to with those classes you were less than happy with..

Did you apply for e/w or day option btw?

You don't have to pay out of pocket unless you do not receive financial aid. I am a part time student and I needed at least 6 credits per semester to get financial aid.

if you need to retake A&P 1 & 2-Dixon does mention that you can take a test instead of retaking the courses. Excelsior College does a test that is a couple hundred dollars, if you pass that, you don't have to retake the A&P courses. I opted to just retake them because I felt like I had a year to kill anyway and it would be a good refresher..

KNB3715,

I did contact Angela and was told the same thing. She was encouraging though due to my current grades and my high TEAS test score. I'm not going to stress too much about it. I am 30, I have beyond excellent (current) grades, I have a BA, I have worked for 7 years as a mental health professional...I think I will be fine.

I am applying to a few other schools just in case, but Abington is of course my first choice.

Yes, I am applying for e/w also. I have a friend who is there a year ahead of me, he loves it and has nothing but good things to say.

I got a call to schedule an interview today....so nervous!
