Peds heme onc case manager

Does anyone work as a Peds heme onc case manager? I currently work in an outpatient clinic with a mix of heme onc  and other specialties, doing infusions,  transfusions among other things. Due to a lot of general unhappiness in the clinic where I work I’m looking into a peds heme onc , RN position. It basically involves triaging phone calls, helping set up treatment calendars dealing with prior authorizations and answering family questions. I think it might offer a lot of connection with the families, and probably a lot of flexibility. I’m worried I’ll miss the one on one patient care which I love, it’s very satisfying, but I’m burnt out with dealing with childish issues of other staff members in a very small work environment. I’m looking to retire in maybe 10 years, so this could be a good fit for me  for a while. Does anyone have any input?

Hello,

I’m not a case manager but I do work on hemonc. Jump on that opportunity! I’d love to be a case manager or navigator for my unit. It can be very sad and challenging, but our navigators have very good relationships with their patients and while they may not see them everyday they will remember you and questions will be asked about you — Like, “What does Ashley think of dextrose (sugar) while my child is getting chemo?”
Good luck! Hope that was somewhat helpful. A lot of behind the scenes work. You won’t miss the floor and you may even be asked to cover the floor from time to time.
