Hello,

I'm still a student, but two of my current areas of interests are psych nursing and pediatric nursing. I'm wondering if there's anyone who works in pediatric psych? I'd be really really interested in anything you can tell me about what you do, how you feel about it, how you got the job, what experience you had prior to getting this job, if your facility hires new grads / takes preceptorship students?

Thank you so much to anyone who responds!

Hi and welcome,

I love it and my facility hires new graduates. Check into doing a clinical rotation on a pediatric or adolescent unit while you are in school. Good luck.

Hi Jules,

Thanks so much for your response. That is a good idea, I'll have to look into that and see if it's an option for my preceptorship. If you don't mind me asking, did you start there as a new grad? What was it like?

That is where I started as a new grad. It is a large inner city teaching hospital so I got a lot of great experience very quickly. Although I totally understand the value of a more well rounded skill set I would have been miserable in med surge and love what I do. Good luck.
