Brakes on pediatric cribs

  1. Please help. We are using a pediatric crib in our nursery that is an older model in that it does not have brakes. Risk management says it is ok to use it.
I think it's not ok, but I don't know if other units have pediatric cribs without brakes or policies that say brakes should be on to prevent injury to infant or nurse.
Can I please have opinions, experiences etc. on my concern.
    Thanks a lot.

I agree with you and am surprised that risk management does not. I have always had brakes on the cribs I have used. Occasionally someone would forget to put the brakes on and when you go to lean up against the crib you almost fall. This seems like an accident waiting to happen.

I have to agree - I'm kind of shocked Risk Management would be ok with it. I don't know of an official "policy" in our hospital - but I've also never seen a crib at work that didn't have brakes.
