I have been a Mother Baby nurse now for 1 year and a Newborn Delivery/Nursery nurse for about 4 months. I am cross-trained in NICU as well. I really want to go back to school for my Pediatric NP- Primary Care, but I'm concerned about my lack of peds experience. Would anyone think that my current experience is sufficient to be accepted into an NP program? Any advice or opinions are greatly appreciated! Thanks everybody!

I think you need some real peds expereince. NICU is considered outside that realm in 99% of the cases. How do you know you would even LIKE that patient population if you've never worked with them?

I agree with PP. I'm a peds nurse and love it! I strongly advise Peds Med Surg and/or primary care experience to broaden your knowledge.

Yes, your current experience is sufficient to apply to an NP program. Make a list of the schools you are interested in, then check each school's website for admission requirements.
