Can someone out there please please please give me more info on this?? I have been dreading doing a CNA certification course, mainly because I can handle everyone except the elderly. Kids are the complete opposite for me and I love them to death. What do I need to do to obtain such a job? Any special training? Or just a regular CNA course then apply for a PEDS job? Because I noticed while I was in the place where I will be taking my CNA course, they use all adult dummies. Is there a different CNA program I need to take? Help me out please!

In my area, there is only one type of CNA program. The program, itself, was geared toward the care of the elderly. Our clinicals were in a geriatric nursing home.

Right out of graduation, I was hired at a pediatric long-term care facility. So, there is hope!

There wasn't any extra course or anything to specialize? I wasn't sure cause child care and adult care are different in some areas. But thank god there is hope!

I work on a med/surg floor with kids and I work nights. I love my job and only been here 3 months and the only thing I dont like is me getting up at night to come to work. But I do vitals, I&O's and help whenever I need help is needed. I work with a lot of people that are on contact precautions but everything else is fine.

I forgot to add that I finished my nursing training in April as a Patient care assistant, Phelbotomist and EKG tech and only worked with adults and teens. I am still stuck because I want to become an RN but I would love to work as a Receptionist.

There is only one CNA course in my state. They *should* go over all stages of life, from infant to peds, to teens, to early adulthood, middle, to elderly. My class primarily covered the elderly because the "teacher" said that we would all end up in nursing homes. Well, he was dead wrong! My first job is in a hospital on an adult (18+) unit. But you can apply wherever you like: a children's hospital, NICU, PICU, etc. You can also take classes boost your CNA resume and be certified in various women's and children's areas. (Like a CEU class for birthing, child abuse, pediatric ER care, pediatric feeding and swallowing disorders, etc) First just apply when you are ready after your CNA state certification, because it might not even be needed. Some of the NA's in my hospital on the children's units had no experience other than a child of their own. Good luck :)

At my hospital (I work in peds) it helped to have child development courses.
