Pediatric ER EBP change ideas

Published

I need help with thinking up an idea for a new EBP change project for a pediatric ER. Everything I think of we already do or are in the process of changing. So all ideas are welcome.

I don't work in peds ED, but in a peds hospital, and I heard this topic being discussed at shared governance. IF you get oncology kids with fevers, they were discussing the length of time they stay in the ED after first antibiotic administration. (Honestly, in the PICU we seldom deal with this so I wasn't crystal clear on the issue here- maybe you'll understand what they were getting at!)

The other thing we are working on is pre-operative chlorhexidine bathing for appys and other urgent- ED-to-OR surgical cases where the child comes from home.

Maybe this gives you a couple ideas?

Often depressed adolescents drink alcohol. We have been administering the Beck Depression Inventory on patients who come to our Peds ED for intoxication, once they have sobered up. The tool helps identify who may be at risk so we can provide resources for patients who may be experiencing depression. Just a thought...
