PearsonVue: Personal Belongings

Published

So my friend took the NCLEX yesterday and stated that at the site, before entering the test room, the PV officials conducted a search of his belongings and his pockets. They pretty much made him empty his pockets in his pants and shirt. Is this normally how they conduct their security measures? I feel it's not fair, and I have never heard of them doing anything like this before...

I know we are suppose to remove watches wallets cell phones PDA, ipads, i pods, etc but what gives them the right to search through the person's pockets and do a pat down?

Did they think he would try to cheat that badly?

What do you guys think happened there and is that what they usually do?

How did they "search" you guys? If they did at all -__-

No one searched me, but I also made sure to not bring anything. Not sure why they searched your friend. You can not bring anything to the center so leave everything home or in your car, you arent even allowed to study or do a fast review of anything. This is my first time hearing of this, so maybe he did something as simple as reviewed a lab value. They take their job serious.

The folks at Pearson Vue are extremely serious about preventing any form of cheating. When I took the test I was instructed to empty all items out on my pockets and place them in a locker. Before entering the testing room I was asked to pull out my pockets to show that they were empty. I was not searched and no one did a "pat down."

If you'd like more information on the security measures surrounding the NCLEX, the 2011 Examination Candidate Bulletin on the Pearson Vue website spells out the procedures pretty clearly.

Yes, that is standard for the NCLEX and other pearson vue tests. No one will pat you down, but you will have to remove your jacket or sweatshirt, roll up your sleeves and pull out your pockets. You will be given a locker for personal belongings. The only thing you are allowed to bring into the test is the key to your locker and your ID. Nothing else. Your are also video taped and audio taped during the test so everything you do and say is recorded.

Yes, pearson vue is very concerned about cheating, and they should be. You get to practice as a nurse after passing this test and people's lives are in your hands. If someone cheats they are a danger to their patients so pearson vue takes pretty strict measures to prevent that.

I wasnt even allowed to chew gum. ha!

No one searched me. I was told to produce what was in my pockets by reaching in and emptying them on my own.

Absolutely, NO GUM CHEWING!!

Took mine today and they asked us to turn out pockets inside and out before being brought inside the testing center...Actually the militaristic way they admitted and registered us testers added a lot to my anxiety w/c was high already...But once I was inside I calmed down and blocked out everything...:)

Really? NO GUM CHEWING? Chewing gum takes away alot of anxiety for me. Interesting.

ah okay he was probably exaggerating the pat down part lol.

but atleast now ill know not to bring anything and have to wear just a simple tee and jeans lol.

do we have to take off shoes also?

ill just wear flipflops if thats the case lol

Specializes in ER, progressive care.

No one physically searched me, but I was asked if I had anything in my pockets. I was wearing jeans and you could easily tell I had nothing in them.

As far as what to bring to the testing center, don't even bother bringing your phone. Leave it in your car. Don't bring any study materials, either. I just brought a bottle of water, my ID/ATT and a snack (I think I brought a granola bar and a banana) and that's it.

Nope, no gum! When I chew it, it takes away alot of anxiety, some stress and helped me concentrate. So when I was informed of no gum, it took me for a loop:uhoh3:. So when I studied for the NCLEX, day in and day out, I had to take out my gum and learn how to control my anxiety, stress, and learn to concentrate without it :crying2:. It was hard because I always chew gum, but I managed to get through it :smokin:You can do it to!!
