Just wondering what everyone thought of the pay here in Maryland? And are any local hospitals paying more for ICU/ER nurses?

I think the pay here in MD is good. I have done some research on the web checking salary ranges for RN's and Md is on a pretty good payscale. I only researched surrounding states and some southern states. I'm not sure about the ICU/ER. I'm still a student, but a dear friend of mine is making very good money as a RN and she does Med/Surg. Browse the net for the specialty. You can go on Yahoo or salarywizard.com. Hope this helps!!

I hear the pay is good as well. I have a couple of friends who work in nursing and I don't know exactly what they make, but I know that they are able to afford apartments by themselves...so I guess that is a good sign :)

From what I've heard figure around $45,000-$49,000 + to start, depending on the hospital.

I live in Maryland and I am in 2nd semester, but I talk to a lot of Nurses at the hospital I work for and they seem to pay very good. One nurse who works on PCU makes on average $80,000 per year, but he works four 12 hour shifts. After 1 year of experience, you can work every weekend and make $33 an hour, and every other weekend you can make $30 an hour.
Hope this helps!! Scott

I'm still in BSN school, but MD seems to be one of the higher paying states.

It depends if you work for a hospital or for an agency and what shift you work, but with overtime the sky is the limit. As a staff nurse you can expect to make around 23 [new grad] per hour...with 3-4 years of experience you ca make a base rate of 26-28 per hour. Shift differentials range from 2-4 dollars for evenings and nights and usually another 2-4 for weekends. Agnect Nurses make between 40-50 an hours. You can find some agencies that pay more but you may get cancelled more frequently.
I hope this helps.
