Patient Sitters deserves more recognition in the medical world and should be included in more nurses discussion. The time they spend with patients daily is very significant to all medical staff. Consent one on one observation of all patients from safety to combative is a hard task. Even being verbally & physically assaulted. They help nurses & doctors with patient safety & familarity with behavior observation. Redirecting some patients during an eight to twelve hour shift takes patience & compassion which we all know as a nurse sometimes can be hard coming on or off a sixteen hour schedule work day. To all the Patient Sitters you Rock!!!!

We don't have dedicated sitters. When we do need a sitter it is one of the aides that are called in. They are on a rotating schedule for this and all the aides have to sit when it is their turn. I think it's great that we use aides because when the patient needs basic care they can perform it, whereas if the sitters were not CNAs then they would have to call another staff member into the room to clean the patient or whatever it is. When they need a break, whoever is available will relieve them whether it is a nurse or another aide.

I am unclear as to what discussions you're asking us to include sitters in. How do you propose the 'medical field' recognize them?
