I was in clinicals yesterday and worked with a wonderful RN who didn't mind teaching me a few small things if my instructor was busy. Anyway, I had two post surgery patients. The RN said the newest one was "on the boat." Meaning B.O.A.T., which stood for something but I can't remember what. B was for Breathing or A was for Airway. The patient was on oxygen and was using an incentive spirometer every hour so maybe that had something to do with it with the breathing or aiway part. I wish I had time to write it down at the time or ask her again but it was my first time with two patients and I was extremely busy, as was the RN.
Does anyone know what BOAT stands for?
