Patient Care Tech on Ortho/Neuro job duties

Published

Hello there! I was just offered a job as a PCT on an ortho/neuro floor for night shift and I was just wondering what night shift duties were particularly. I followed a tech around after my interview and got to see the duties that were performed during the day such as bathing, feeding, vitals, and glucose checks. My orientation isn't for a few weeks and I just wanted some insight from any other techs or nurses that had this position before that could let me know! I have never worked in a hospital as a PCT before, only as a CNA in other settings. I'm super excited to start working and I want to go in with prior knowledge of how things are! Let me know any advice, tips or any other information you want to give me!

Thanks!

I did this role before I became a nurse. for me the ortho floor was a lot of helping people get to the bathroom in the middle of the night hooked up to their scds and the pain from moving and assisting them back to bed. before bed is getting them in their CPM machines that bend the new knees, early morning is accuchecks and getting them up for breakfast. ortho floor is a lot of physical moving bc patients are limited based on diagnosis. didn't work neuro can't help U there. congrats!

Ah thank you!! That helps a lot :) I can't wait to start!
