I wrote my CPNRE for the first time on Wednesday, and walked out thinking it was hard. I am guessing I got about 75% on it. Think that's high enough to pass?? Is it true you need above 80 to pass the exam? I know that a panel of experts decides what the pass must be, and that it is NOT bell-curved, but I have no idea what the minimum percent you must get is.
I was a straight A student in college, and when I did the predictor tests from ASI they said I had a 95-100% chance of passing, so I didn't worry about really cramming too much, because the predictor said I was well-prepared. Now I'm freaking out I failed.
There were some questions on there that I honestly had to guess about! Some that required very specific knowledge that I wasn't expecting, and that we didnt cover much in my program.
These next few weeks are going to be tough. I am so scared I failed. Is that normal??

They never give out what percentage you scored on your exam so no one knows. They just give you a pass or fail notice. There is no officially listed passing mark. Yes it is normal to feel like you failed. Me and all my friends did and we all passed. Good luck.

Of course the exam is hard. Nursing is hard. The usual passing score will be somewhere around 60-65% but like loriangel14 says, you don't get a numerical grade, just pass/fail.

I heard the pass was determined by the overall average of everyone that is writing the exam. Apparently, you have to score at the average or above to pass. I too wrote on Jan 12, 2011. I left feeling like I failed, the test was not what I expected and I am keeping my fingers crossed for a pass.
Nikkismom, that's for RNs, not RPNs. If you look here: http://www.cpnre.ca/abouttheexam_faq_e.asp#mustanswercorrect
you see that they decide the passing grade before we even write. They just obviously don't tell us what we need to pass...I am hoping and praying I passed. That exam was hard.
Thanks for the info. I just hope they don't have a high pass grade. I left the exam feeling like I failed. I found the exam was much harder than I anticipated. I wrote the date of my b-day so I sure didn't feel like celebrating when I finished writing. I am praying for a pass too, and I agree the exam was difficult.

I'm right with you guys on that feeling. Felt like I failed the exam. Soooo hope I didn't....will be quite embarrassing to graduate with honours and then fail the exam. I'm freakin out because I catch another error when I start reviewing things. I was hired by a hospital as a non-registered nurse but they want me to get my temp but I am so worried that I failed that I don't want to apply for my temporary license because then my employer will have to revoke it and put me back to a non-registered which then EVERYONE would know I failed. Ugh.....hate waiting for my results. Good luck to you guys....crossing my fingers for all of us...the exam was definately tricky and hard. :grn:

I took my exam in June 2010 and our class was first who took the exam with new rules. Yes, now it is not a bell-curve, you just should pass sertain percentage (actually 63%), but you should pass in all 4 categories os questions. So, if your average mark is 90%, but you have 62% in one part you would NOT pass.
Good luck.
....and more, some A students in my class did not pass the exam.
I notice you are an RN, Lio - are the rules the same for the PN exam? I did not write the CRNE, I wrote the CPNRE.
Either way, I guess we will all know in 1-3 weeks! Results could potentially start being mailed out the end of next week. CNO says it takes 4-6 weeks to mail out results.
I'm nervous, but trying to to freak out. Won't do me any good at this point, anyhow. If I failed, I failed. That said, I really, really want to pass!
I believe the rules are much different for the RN. I am keeping my fingers crossed for all of us that wrote the CPRNE:nurse:

I know that on the september 2010 exam they had to have a 66% to pass since when you fail they tell you how many questions you got right and how many you had to get right to pass and it came out to a 66%.
I've heard from my teachers, who have gone and made questions for the exam, that it is actually bell curved?
I am so nervous to find out if I passed!! Did anyone in Ontario get their results yet??
