Ok so here's my story. This was my second time around after failing in August of 2009 i wasnt discouraged just determined to finish this program.I was prepping for this exam and finishing up my Master's in Public Health which i believed contributed to may failure. I chalked it up as a 1900 workshop ;) Expensive but well worth it.

So here i am again preparing for my cpne in Madison Wisconsin. I waited until the day of to buy my plane ticket(dont ask me why) And i decided to fly in to milwaukee and catch the badger shuttle for 20 dollars to madison. It was only 130 dollars to fly into milwaukee as opposed to the 239 one way ticket to madison. the badger shuttle takes two hrs. Any rate i got there thursday checked into my room,And got to studying. I just made a quick crib sheet with all my critical elements, assessments and managements. i didnt really do pnuemonics. I made them into methodical steps like:respiratory assessment step one--- step two and so on.

Well , 4pm arrived and we went to the lab stations. I passed iv push lab(which is what caused me to fail the first cpne). passed Im Injection lab and then failed the wound and the iv med(used secondary to regulate drops)my hair contaminated my glove) SMH.... Nerves will get you everytime i swear. Next i was assigned my peds pt first. Thank god ,a 17yr old s/p spinal fusion. You know what my dx was acute pain!!! very easy. I was assigned mobility, respiratory assessment, and meds. No iv , I and o's. I also put risk for falls. we had lots of interruptions,dr's physical therapist and ect. But when it was done my ce walke me to the bathroom when i came out she said you passed.... One down one to go. I decided i wouldnt think about the total just do one at a time. Next pt was a 74 yr old with infect pacemaker wires. they removed her wires and put an external pacemaker. She also had a really bad yeast infection due to her antibiotic therapy. i was assigned skin assessment and respiratory assessment and mobility, i &o's and more items i may have missed right this moment. I used impaired skin integrity. Awesome!!! she came out and said i passed!!! Now on to the labs....... passed iv med with flying colors. the wound was another story.. all my gloves had holes in them!!! LOL I was sooo nervous that when i finished finally the CE and i both busted out laughing and i passed....... Thank you god!!! I had the worst headache when i returned to my room. I showered and went to the restaurant to eat. only one more patient tomorrow.. i hadnt even baought my return ticket to ga but wasnt worried about it at all.. I decided to only worry about each part of the exam at a time.. labs, pcs1 pcs2 pcs3. one at a time. i decided to just walk around. I walked through a nieghborhood and just relaxed. my hotel had laundry so i washed clothes and bleached the hotel tub and took a bubble bath :) next day we had lost one student so from 5 to 4 of us. I was a little more talkative on sunday but not too much i had kept to myself the whole weekend. Back to the hub room... I found out i had one examiner that one young lady said was a hard examiner. i told myself that was her experience not mine. I went with him to the floor.. I had a s/p hernia repair and endometrial ablation pt. pain was running a 5 even on a pca pump. no meds yeahhh!! she had an iv so remember to check that drops are correct. i had abdominal assessment and respiratory management and pt teaching n regards to how to use the incentive spirometer. Homerun!!!

did my care ,my assessment and my dx was acute pain!!! well i used all my time documenting. i turned in my paperwork and then went to the bathroom and went into lobby and started watching TV. before i could even watch my examiner looked at me and gave me the thumbs up!!! I cried!!!! I am still crying!!! I am sooo happy !!!!

This exam can be done.. It was 930 am ... I went back to my room looked at airtran's website. bought my ticket and my flight was 124.00 . went and ate a little and packed.

my advice.. try to relaax

do one thing at a time

remember your not proving how good of a nurse you are you are taking an exam

critical elements

assessments and management...

You can do it!!!
