passed-need job stat

Published

I just found out monday I passed the NCLEX and now have my LPN license. I had been waiting to call the lady from the local jail when I heard. Well they filled the FT position, but have a PT open. 2 other places I applied have every other weekend PT. I have'nt heard from the FT jobs yet. I'm getting worried because I've been living off loans and credit cards. I have a PT factory job, but it does'nt pay enough. Even if I went back to FT with OT, I would only break even until my school loans came due. I'm having problems with my gf too. Shes getting on my case saying I should'nt have waited soo long to apply. I had applied to some local hospitals, but have'nt called them back. I don't think she should be bitching at me. She also said she would say something to one of the ladys where shes working (she has 2 PT nurse aid positions). Now she says shes not going to. I think she got kind of lucky with clinicals and has 3 FT offers. I know she was a good student, but also somewhat of a teachers pet (probly should'nt have told her that). Anyway are you supposed to call places back about a week after you apply? Any other advice besides looking thru the papers and net, maybe cold calling, local area first or send my resume to all local hospitals and nursing homes?

call the places back and ask for a status on your application....walk in to other places to fill out applications...how about the PT positions? You wouldn't consider them? You never to know, they may turn into FT? Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I would consider PT. But like I said, I can only work 4 days at the plant if I stayed PT and if I got 2 shifts every other weeked in a PT nursing job, I would be lucky to just break even with my finances. I guess I need to think about the long-term though, that it could turn into FT. My family says to stick with it though. There has to be some FT jobs out there and I just got my license in the mail today. I'm just a little depressed right now because I think my gf just broke up with me because of some of the stuff I said (nothing that bad) and our different views on looking for work...

Just a lil FYI: What did not seem bad to you may have been very hurtful to her. (You did call her a teacher's pet in your prev. post)...Good luck in your job search.

I would really consider taking the PT job and look for another PT or PRN job. You can make more money that way because they will take out less taxes. Definitely call places where you applied. And go in person to fill out an application. You might get to schedule an interview while you're there. Good luck with everything.

I did'nt even think about taking 2 part-time nursing jobs. That is an idea. I have'nt even had an interview yet though. And NYDreamer, I did try to apologize, called, she did'nt answer, so left an e-mail. This whole thing started in my e-mail saying I passed. She started bitching about me not going FT at the factory right after we graduated (about a month ago). I said something back about her not giving me the number she promised of who to talk to about a job and it just snowballed. I hope all our plans are'nt over now. We've been together for a year and a half and this one e-mail disagreement may end it all? I don't know what to do now. Wait for her to respond to my e-mail, call her, go to her house?

I do really care about her, but she overreacts sometimes I think...

Maybe she needs time to cool off. I hope everything works out between you two.

I was going to call one of the places back that I applied at on Tuesday, but the ad in the paper says "please no phone calls". Does that mean just people inquiring about jobs or also people checking on applications? I don't know if I should or not. Should I at least wait until this Tuesday, so it would be a week? What do you guys think?

I would definitely take the PT job. Remember that this is nursing, and you'll probably be offered all the hours you can take. I was working PT as an NAC and once worked 96 hours in 7 days and 60 hours the next 7....boy that was a nice check. I'm sure, even working PT, that if you let the scheduler know your situation (that you need hours) that they won't have a problem giving you more. Also, just a bit of advice: leave the personal life at home when you go to work. If you mention in an interview or to your scheduler the fact that you're depressed and having home problems, they may seem skiddish about wanting to offer you a position. Just some friendly advice.

Yeah, I know that much. My problem will probably be not talking enough as I am usually very quiet until I get to know people and then I still don't talk a lot. I'm sure they will ask questions in the interview and I should ask some too. Any advice on what to ask about? in addition to: what is the job responsibilities, hours, orientation, ect. I should think about how to answer some of their questions too as its been awhile since I had an interview and have'nt had one for nursing yet. I wondering if there is sticky or something somewhere in the forum...
