I graduated with my BSN RN late 2019. It took me 10 mos from when I graduated nursing school to pass NCLEX. Mind you I took it 4x! Being a terrible test taker (nursing school test were manageable for me) but NCLEX was another ball game. I thought passing NCLEX was literally impossible. I am here to say if I can do it a lot of others can too. I felt every emotion possible with this 10 month journey so you are not the only one!!All I ever heard before NCLEX was UWorld was the “best”.. it was “exactly” like NCLEX. I am here to tell you none of “which source is the best” means anything. You have to find a source that you understand and can retain and keep in your memory.
I hated ATI, liked UWorld, loved Kaplan and Youtube videos (if you’re a visual learner Youtube will be your best friend). I had to test out the best source for me, & I say Kaplan because it has LOTS of practice exams plus a Qbank that will show all of the 4 topics (Mangement of care, Psych. Integrity etc.) + 4 subtopics (Risk Reduction, Safety Infection etc.) they “grade” you on NCLEX & how well you are doing in those sections. So you are aware of what area you are strong/weak on.
I did everything you can possibly think of. I did ATI live review, UWorld, Hurst 3 day Live review, listened to Mark notes, Kaplan 3 day live review/self paced. I did flashcards, flash cards taped on my wall, made binders, made word documents, made Quizlets, I had a Wyzant tutor. The best advice I can give you is to find the best strategy that works for you or do all until you are confident about one of them (do not do them all at once that will confuse you).
Moving forward, I took my test for the 4th time and it shut off at 60 questions. I was shocked because I thought I was doing terrible because I only got 7 SATA. People really make a big deal about getting a lot of SATA. Well I am here to also say, do not worry clearly a few SATA is just as OK as a lot because I passed with only 7. I also had no math, no Ekgs, no audios, not even diseased type of questions it was really a bunch of tricky questions. This is my testimony for people to know that God is good because this was all him. I wasn’t expecting a test like this. I am not going to lie, even though this pandemic is terrible. I am glad it had an impact on NCLEX as far as it being 4hrs and 60-130 questions. With this implementation, it helped me not get drained prepping doing test questions for NCLEX and most importantly during NCLEX. Hang on in there, I hope this makes all the future RNs feel a little less anxious. Good luck and God bless.
