Passed aanp, tips from my journey

Published

I have used allnurses for many of my questions in regards to the AANP examination. So, I an now back as a passing FNP-C with my study habits and what I felt from my review materials.

1) You have to have Leik. I rented the book with Kindle for $25. This was by far the best book that just breaks down each area with exam tips. It was just so go straight to the point that it made sense and it was the book I immediately went to when reviewing any question that I had. There are over 600 questions in the back of the book and then you can relate them to the area in the book.

2) My school required Fitzgerald review. I agree with many in that it was too in-depth. I was even given a free predictor from her that I did not even do. I just felt her questions were so much harder than the actual examination.

3) Barkley. I was given CD's from his review course. He is straight to the point and I listened to each CD at least twice! I think having his review course in full would have been great. He too is straight to the point and does make you learn the material instead of testing to the questions.

4) ExamEdge. I purchased 10 tests (around $100), took five of them. They definitely were the most accurate to what you feel when taking the exam, although I believe Leik's questions themselves were closer to the exam.

5) APEA. I purchased the Q-bank for one month at $129 (very expensive) but I was able to do questions everywhere! The tutor mode really gives the information about each question and reasons. This was a great resource!

5) I studied for about one month, during the holidays (which took a full week away) and with family staying at the home. So, it was difficult. But, I took a full week off of work and left the home to study. I would go to Starbucks and just do question after question and then write down what I had trouble with and review the notes later. I did over 3000 questions!

Overall, the test was definitely harder than I thought, but I passed the first time!!!

Take your time, go in with a positive attitude and just do your best. Definitely I learned that my first answer/thought was generally the right answer!

Oh, I wrote on my scratch paper the following:

Mr. Ass (Mitral Regurg, Aortic Stenosis- Systolic) Only ones that radiate

Ms. Ard (Mitral Stenosis, Aortic Regurg- Diastolic)

HBsAG- have the disease or not

Anti-HBs- immune or cured (+)/not immune or cured (-)

Anti-HBc- you have come in contact with sometime (+) or not (-)

That was about it!

Christie a brand new FNP-C
