Passed my AANP exam!

Hello! Just passed my AANP exam (FNP) and thought I would share my journey here. Unlike most of my classmates I took some time after school to travel and see family before settling down to study for boards. So I graduated end of December and took my exam in April. I do not recommend waiting that long, but I had a lot of life stuff going on, so that was the timing that worked for me.

Once I finally settled I purchased the online Fitzgerald review for ~$600-ish. Not worth it at all in my opinion. Her review video opened with "don't do practice questions, that is what will make you fail, what you need is a robust knowledge." I don't disagree that you need robust knowledge, but Fitzgerald's expectation of using her course and then taking a predictor exam and scoring greater than 85% made me feel so defeated I spent probably 2 months longer then I actually needed reviewing for the exam, all from her overly detailed, and confusing text.

I slogged through close to 50 hours of Fitzgerald videos droning on and on, and took my first predictor exam and scored a 63%. I completed her entire review book and took another predictor exam, and scored 64%. I had already scheduled my exam and started to panic. Since Fitzgerald said I really should be scoring 85% or better after completing her course.

So in my panic, I downloaded the FNP mastery app and the Leik app and just started doing questions on top of questions.

I averaged about 70% on the FNP mastery app and about 75% on the Leik app. The only reason I believe I passed my boards is because of Leik. Get her book and/or her app, read everything. Know everything, there is no fat to be trimmed from Leik. After I did Leik I took another predictor exam and scored 84%. I only had Leik for about 5 days before my exam and I studied everyday from her app for 4-6 hours, and my score literally went up 20%.

As for my predictor tests I used the PSI retired exams and found those to be easier then the APEA ones. Leik's questions are a bit easier than FNP mastery. I don't know how much I loved the FNP mastery app, because I found the explanations to be very inconsistent. I also found that the questions were phrased quite poorly, and not really a reflection of how the AANP writes questions. APEA is about on par with how the board questions are, and of course PSI is retired questions so I found those two exams to be the best predictors.

Overall, all you need is Leik. Save your money, and get Leik. She made me feel confident that I would enter the exam RN and leave FNP! Her app is so encouraging, the information so manageable. You will have the knowledge needed to be an entry level FNP after studying Leik.

I have both, I have a leik book and Fitzgerald the video lecture and book as well. I am going to graduate school in a couple of week, I am super duper afraid how to prepare the board exam and what is best for the board.

I am the person who always get nervous, can't concentrate well, but also, the English is not my first langue that I feel more scared to take the board.

and also, I keep getting 50% of the apea predictor test. Am I screwed up?
