Hi all, glad that I found this forum. I am currently a biology undergrad student in my junior year. Through my freshman, sophomore, and first part of junior year, I was pre-med. However beginning junior year, I have been in an internship with a local family practice. At first I was with the physician but as time went on I grew interested in what the role of the APRN was and began shadowing and working with her. As my interests peaked I started shadowing over at the hospital and I've decided that I could see myself more in the role of an APRN than a physician. My plan was to enter a direct entry APRN program and work part time as an RN while pursuing the APRN part of it ( I have found programs that are decelerated for the APRN section so that students would be able to work).
Up until now I was working on an academic schedule to finish all the prerequisites for medical school, including physics. Physics has not been my strong point and I got a B- in it the first term. Because I decided that I no longer wish to pursue medical school I decided to pass/fail it for the second semester. This is the only course I have ever pass/failed before. I currently have a 3.5GPA and I still have to complete a couple prerequisites for nursing such as psychology etc so I am hoping it will go up (looking at the classes I will be taking, it should). Since I took physics as a pass/fail, will this hurt my chances of getting into a program? I know it is not required but I am not sure how the masters program would take it. I just did it pass/fail because I didn't want it to drop my GPA if I didn't need it for anything in graduate school.
Any advice is appreciated as well as advice about pursuing APRN. Does anyone know where I can look up the acceptance rates for APRN programs? It seems medical school acceptance rates are easy to find but APRN acceptance rates remain elusive. Looking forward to hearing from anyone.
Thank You!

I do not see taking physics as a pass/fail course affecting your entry into a nursing school. However I will say most APN programs like their students to have anywhere from 2-5 years of RN experience before being accepted. I would not worry about acceptance rates into APN programs at this point, I would focus on finishing your undergraduate degree and applying for Accelerated BSN programs that would take one year to complete. Best of luck.

I believe the OP mentioned direct entry programs, so no worries about prior RN experience, as the program is designed to teach from this persons background.
I would not expect the physics pass/fail would impact your ability to get into these programs, but the best answer would be to discuss it with an admissions counselor for the programs you are interested in.
Good Luck!
