I realize that a lot of parish nurses (now called faith community nurses) positions are volunteer, but can anyone out there tell me what the average salary is for paid positions or where can I search on the internet for salary information. Thanks!

Welcome to allnurses.com!:welcome:
Are you considering becoming a Parish Nurse? I am a Parish Nurse and am in a paid position. As you said, many Parish Nurses are volunteers. Depending on where you live, I would suggest you go online and look for Parish Nurse programs in your area. Many, such as the one I am with, are associated with hospitals. You can talk to the Parish Nurse coordinator about salary. Feel free to PM me if you have further questions.

I was a ParishNurse for 5 years. It was a supplemental income to my husband's income. I made $500 a month -that is what the church could pay. That was whether I worked 5 hours a week or 50 hours a week. The benefit I received was health care for my family - so that was good. But it did not provide a liveable salary so after my divorce, I actually became their church secretary which was a much better salary.
In my experience, each church decides what they can afford - usually it is volunteer or part-time. This was a few years ago, but the current parish nurse at our church is making $650 a month, so it really has not improved salary-wise.
If you do this job, you will most likely be supplementing it with another part-time nursing job.
However, if you do this type of job through a community agency, your chance or having a more competitive RN salary increases greatly. But then, so does the stress level and job expectations.

I am presently in a Parish Nurse program. I do not look to receive money for this position, my church is not well off and just want to help in a way I can.
There are paid Parish Nurse positions, associated with hospitals
