Panama, Fl salaries?

Published

Hey, I am a nursing student in an ASN program. I am just curious to kno some info on starting salaries in the Panama area?? ANy info would be great!

OK . . . please find time to read this in between your crying (due to laughter, I hope).

PC has two main hospitals, Gulf Coast Med Ctr and Bay Medical Center. It also has a couple of rehab facilities, HHC jobs, and several nursing homes so I'm not sure what your interest is.

I graduated a couple of years ago and the starting salary for an ADN at either hospital was $16/hr. I'm almost sure nothing has changed since then or I would've heard some of our nurse interns mention it. The other facilities I mentioned pay below that. I went PRN after 18 mos (I'm retired military and don't need benefits) and the pay went to $27. Of course, shift differentials will add to your pay.

While I really love this area and have been here for over a decade, many people here are pretty dismayed that the salary hasn't kept pace with the incredible skyrocketing of the local cost of living here over the past five years (home values and land increased 200% and homeowner's insurance is through the roof).

It's well known that all of the north Florida panhandle has pretty much the same dismal pay scale give or take $1/hr from Pensacola to points east, i.e Tallahassee, etc. Salaries are also similar over the borders into Alabama and Georgia.

Don't want to discourage you from coming here, but just want to let you know what you'll be up against.

I Enjoy my job, the staff and coworkers and the area atmosphere and everything else PC has to offer.

Feel free to write again if you have more Q's

If your smart you will go to South Florida. at least there the pay is slightly better. after 7 yrs of Nursing experience I am still only getting 19.58 an hour with small shift diff. this for 12 hr. nights. the Florida Panhandel is a slave labor market when it comes to RNs, even better check into Travel Nursing. Then you may be able to afford to live in Florida.

wow...so the starting pay foor a new grad is way below 19.58?? since u have experince? That is insane!
