Because they are high risk for injury and need to be monitored was our number one.

Nine times out of ten, our patients with tracheostomies were placed in rooms closest to the nurses station. After that, the high fall risk patients would be next.
thanks very much

we try to keep the ones at higher risk of eloping and falling close to the desk....i cant even count the number of times i've had to bring a resident behind the desk with me while I chart just so that I could keep them close to me...I used to even roll one with me as i did my med pass b/c she would wander into other residents rooms and mess in their stuff....time consuming as it was..I loved that pt to pieces...she has since passed away and Ive not had another one that could take her place.

In acute care, we keep the icu discharges near the nurses station. Closely followed by those who either have dementia or are psych patients who wound up with us by the need for surgery. Yup, the psych unit won't accept post-op patients (even if they were day surgeries), no tubes or ivs permitted up there.
