depends on what you want.
US is a long process and lots of paperwork, stress on sitting the NCLEX and patience. Your training also has an impact as you may be short in hours. Australia can be a shorter process but you don't have to sit their exam.

Have you ever been to AUstralia Cheryl?
I think AUstralia is maybe slighlty easier process than the USA (but probrbaly equal amount of stress)
Awful long way to go to Australia unless you really like it there.....USA is a long way away too but you can be home within 24 hours at a push....Australia it would be considerably longer.....
Wouldnt mind visitning Australia myself

Ive worked in Australia, going back in the New Year, and married to an American, currently attempting the horrendously long process of US immigration. Took only 4 months from start to finish to get a visa to work in Oz for up to 4 years, whereas the US visa has so far taken in excess of 2 years with no end in sight. Working practices in Oz are more similar to the UK than the US, the culture is very laid back and the people are, in my opinion, more tolerant. Good luck

i'm biased but australia is sheer paradise on earth!
and yes, i have been to the us! so i can make comparisons.
i loved the us (west coast is where we visited) and would return for a visit in a heartbeat. but australia truly is one fabulous country and the people aren't all too shabby either! :) our lifestyle is the envy of the rest of the world. and we live in peace here.
we're running out of water, but don't let that bother you! lol
good luck with your decision!

I think that if you want speed then Oz is the choice - but you have to take note of the posts about the distance involved.
The USA is a long drawn out process & from what I can tell from these forums the culture shock is probably going to be greater in the USA.
I guess it's a swings & roundabouts thing.
Personally I wish my lot wanted to go to Oz because this USA thing is winding me up big time!!! You jump through every hoop they give you only to find there's more at each turn. If we'd felt able to go to Oz we'd have been there nearly 2 years by now!!!
However, with a truly beautiful home & good friends waiting for us in Florida we have to stick it out & keep in mind the end game!!
Besides at least they can't play cricket in the USA:lol2:

I think you hit the nail on the head there. The culture shock thing can be quite overwhelming in the US. I lived there on and off for over a year, have travelled to just about every US corner but never really got over it, even being married to an American, whereas I felt at home within a week of arriving in Oz. Distance is obviously an issue, especially if, like me, you dont like flying , but Oz is well worth it, anyone who has been there will know.

I found getting registration in Oz very easy. My job interview was over the phone and resulted in a job offer within a week! The working conditions are excellent, and theres no doubt that the care appears to be better than in the UK because of better resources etc.
Having said that, we are still coming home, its a fantastic country in many ways and the quality of life is excellent, but it still feels like they're stuck in the 80's out here!

this is one canadian, who has been to australia, who doesn't envy your lifestyle. come to think of it i haven't met a canadian (even in the dead of our six month winter) who would up sticks to move there.
peace is a relative concept these days.
