Whatever it was, hope it was resolved favorably. Wondering how that could have come about since cc's cancel a person's registration if payment is not received.
if you exceed your loan limit, is it typical for a community college to revoke you pell grant and make you owe a lot of money?
Wasn't that their mistake? They should not allow a student to exceed their loan limit. It is their responsibility to see that they disburse loan money according to the rules. I would certainly fight them on this one. Or, if nothing else, appeal for a payment plan. Unreasonable to do this to the student who did nothing wrong intentionally.
The amount is outrageous. I have been crying over this. How do I appeal for a payment plan? Who do I go to? This school is of NO help at all. I have been going through this for a month now. I called the head of financial aid, and she never picks up her phone; once she picked up and then hung up on me. I left countless messages and she never calls me back. Other times I get a financial aid representative who promises to call me back and have someone investigate this but they never do. I have called the Dean and they just direct me to financial aid. I even called State Legislator.
Go to the local news media, the TV station and/or the helpline advocate at the newspaper. Get the media involved and I bet you will get a response. Or, see an attorney. It will cost you money, but will be worth it in the long run. The attorney will see to it that your rights are not violated.

If the dispute is purely about pell grants and/or federal student loans - maybe try a federal gov't financial aid contact ?

(I think Pell grants are federally regulated ... ?)
I actually called the federal government and they informed me that they have absolutely nothing ot do with this. That the dispute will have to be handled with the community college I attended. And I finally spoke with someone in Financial Aid today who told me that it doesn't matter if they did not detect that I exceeded my financial loans at that school, I will still have to pay them the money which I think is unfair. I will never ever be able to pay them this money, it's almost 10 grand. I emailed them asking if I can do an appeal because I really would like to have my transcripts. My future is pretty much ruined.

Your posts sound like you don't think you have any responsibility in this situation at all. Even if the school made a mistake, isn't it ultimately your responsibility to keep track of your student loans and applicable limits?
I hope you're able to work something out with the school. Best wishes.
