Has anyone gone from Orlando tech's LPN program into the Valencia College Advanced standing track program since they articulated? Evidently you receive 12 credit hours towards the 60 hr advanced standing track program, taking your total hours down to 48 for your RN. I found the articulation agreement to validate that, but it doesn't explain which classes are skipped to account for those 12 credit hours? It seems like a lot of the program is online, is it doable to work and go to school during the program? Do you get to choose where your clinicals will be? Any info you have would be great!

I'm currently in the AVS program at Valencia.
We have several LPNs from Orlando tech. I don't know what 12 credits you're taking about, but the students from Orlando Tech do all of the same work and same classes as the rest of us. There is no difference.
As far as working, some people can and do work through the program, others don't work, and some went PRN. The program is tough. I worked full time during the first semester and did ok, but ended up quitting my job in the second semester.
Yes, the theory portion is online, but we still have a significant number of days we have to be either at the school or at the hospitals.

LPN students do not take the same classes as a traditional RN student at Valencia. The traditional track is 72 hours and 5 semesters. LPN's take the advanced standing track which is 60 credits and 3 semesters. LPN's pretty much skip the first year at Valencia (because they've already taken those courses in their LPN curriculum) and join traditional track students during their 3rd semester and then finish together. So yes essentially have 12 credits when they begin.

Hey, What's the second semesters schedule like? I know for the first semester you only have labs at Osceola on Wednesdays for fundamentals and Clinicals on Wednesdays for Maternal Child.
Thanks!

Second semester is adult health, so you have your clinical day, but you also have to go the day before to work up your patients and complete your care plans before your clinical day. You also have two extra mental health clinicals in there, plus a few lab days (only 1 or 2, I can't remember), and you also go in for tests on West campus.
The OP did not ask about LPNs in the traditional track. He/she asked about LPNs in the Advanced Standing Track. They are two seperate programs, and those of us in AVS are not dropped into the third semester of the traditional track, we remain in our own program the whole time, so my answer stands.
Those who who enter the AVS program take the same courses as everyone else in the AVS program, regardless of where they went to school.
Thanks for all the info, everyone! I'm really looking forward to going into the program but now that I'm out of PN school I'm so timid about going back, that was such a difficult time. Does anyone have any advice on the workload for the program? How to balance it with a f/t job working 8 hr days in a hospital?
