I've heard of several nurses at major area hospitals (ie Winnie Palmer, Florida Hospital) saying they can tell who has graduated from which school "almost immediately."
Established Orlando Nurses - Do you find this to be true? Can you give any concrete examples illustrating why someone would say this?
New grads - Do you think the program you chose reflects the quality of care you give? Do you feel underprepared or at a disadvantage having graduated from either?
Would love to have your insight into this common concern!

I just went to read this for a second time. I feel those nurses who sit around making comparison statements need to get back to work. I don't even know these schools but I am sure there are good, excellent and mediocre nurses from each.
I don't think that was how it played out --(nurses just sitting around with nothing better to do) My mom (who is not in healthcare) has several acquaintances and friends at these hospitals and has been very excited about the fact that I am applying to nursing school. She tells everyone she knows! (She's a very proud mom.) I think she was asking to see what opinions were about different programs since I don't know where I'm going yet. I found it interesting that she received those consistent responses, and as I said in the original post, I have heard that before. Anyway, I am just excited to start, no matter where that may be!
And today came the letter from Valencia letting me know I have been selected for Spring '10. Very excited!

I also attend VCC and I start their nursing program next month. VCC's nursing program is only an ADN program, while UCF has a Bachelor program. I believe that the bachelor programs focuses more on the mangerial side of nursing, and the ADN programs focus more on the hands on experience. Personally, I would prefer to attend an ADN program initially and then maybe transfer to a university. The managerial aspect is not going to help you in direct patient care, so maybe VCC nurse's seem to have more knowledge and don't have to be told everything to do. Congrats on getting in I believe you made an excellent choice:D!
