Orlando: hospitals & neighborhoods????

Published

Hello,

My husband just accepted a CRNA position with the Florida Hosptial system so we are moving to Orlando. We are renting a vacation home while we search for a house to buy. Any suggestions on neighborhoods? thoughts on Clermont, Windemere, Dr Phillips, Winter Garden area. We know to stay north of disney but would like to stay on that side of town. What about hospitals. What is the best and worst place to work? I am an ICU nurse, but could make a change into anything:)

Thanks for your help!!

I wouldn't live anywhere in Orlando other than the Dr. Phillips/Windermere/Metrowest area. Personally I feel Southwest Orlando is the best Orlando has to offer.

Clermont would require a lot of highway driving and Winter Garden is pretty far out there as well.

Dr. Phillips has the best restaurants, good shopping, bookstores, coffee shops, a lot of grocery stores, etc all very near.

Specializes in Burn/Trauma PCU.

Be careful with the Metrowest area - nice homes, but it's right up against some not-so-hot areas, and crime has gone up significantly in that area. Many of my friends who used to live there have moved away to other areas because they no longer felt safe, and the quality of the neighborhood has gone significantly downhill, though I'm sure there must be pockets of nice in there.

Which campus of Florida Hospital will your hubby work at? There are LOTS of nice, SAFE areas around Orlando - although I suppose no place carries a 100% guarantee! Are you hoping for more suburban/urban areas, or looking for a rural setting?

Good luck with the move!

annabelle,

He is going to work at Celebrations, the main hospital and one other at first, but can change at any time. What area of town would you recommend? Thanks for any insight!!

You said he's going to work at Celebration, the main hospital and one other? I'm confused, do you mean he'll work at Celebration and another Florida Hospital system?

Will he be working at the downtown campus too?

Dr. Phillips is not too far from Celebration nor downtown campus. But Celebration is actually in Osceola county, so technically not Orlando.

Where are you looking to work? Are you wanting to stay with the Florida Hospital system or are you looking into going to Orlando Regional? I know a few people that work at Dr. P. Phillips Hospital (formerly Sand Lake Hospital) which is part of Orlando Regional, and they all really like the hospital. It's a smaller sized facility and the people I've talked to say it's like a family there.

Sorry if it is confusing....he will work for a group that goes to all of the florida hospital system hospitals. He tells them what side of town he will live on and then he goes to 2 hospitals on that side of town and the main hospital.

I don't know where I will work yet, just looking for the good and bad things on this forum so i can narrow down the search.

Thanks for the advice

emily
