My husband may get a new job in Corvallis area. I'm sure I will have to go back to working night shifts if I'm at a hospital. I've been in NICU for 5+ years. I've heard that Oregon has a nursing union and that everyone new to Oregon starts on night shift at hospitals. Is there an average amount of time you have to do nights before going on to days? I'm sure it varies from place to place. Just curious on thoughts and info on hospitals in Corvallis and Eugene area. I may try a travel nurse position to get a feel for the area hospitals.
Thanks for looking!

Every union contract is different, but if an opening is on days, and none of the current night shift nurses want to go to days, then the position would be opened up to outside applicants. There is no union mandate that new nurses MUST start on nights.
If you go to ONA's website, you will be able to read the current union contracts with every facility.
