HIring freeze?

U.S.A. Oregon

Published

Hello nurses... Just returned to Portland after ten years in California and am going to start looking for employment. Are all of the hospitals still on a hiring freeze? The last post was in may talking about this but what about now? I'm expecting a rough battle to get hired but I have hope. I am an oncology nurse w/ 1.5 years experience. Not a lot. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Since you are specialized with experience behind you, I would recommend applying to diverse hospitals in the area. Even if there is a hiring freeze in existence, if you don't put your best foot forward, you'll never know! Good luck! And welcome back to Oregon!

Thanks for the reply... I know I need to just go for it! I am waiting for my children to start school before I start searching but I will take your advice... many thanks!!! :nurse:

The providence system is opening up many various positions. I think that the hiring freeze may be beginning to thaw.

I did happen to see several in oncology as well!

The only issue being that there are sooooo many out there looking for jobs (mostly new grads) I was speaking to a charge on another floor, and she said that they already have over 70 applicants for the one spot they had. (surgical uro/gyn unit).

Since you have some experience in oncology you may have a shot for the oncology positions. The openings I saw were at the Portland Providence Medical Center off 43rd? and Glisan.

Good luck to you....

Thank you Kristie! I was thinking about applying there because I heard through the grapevine that they opened up a new cancer center!!!

It is a wonderful place to work, the new tower is beautiful! There ARE other nursing units there too. Besides surgical and medical oncology on one floor there is neuro and ortho that have units on another floor.
