I am currently awaiting an interview for the OR transition program. I’m really excited to do something new and leave med surg if I get the job. Does any one have advice about how to prepare for the interview? Also, has anyone transitioned from OR to the ICU transition program? Is it more difficult than med surg transition to ICU? I’ve always loved the ICU and OR and would love to specialize in both areas of nursing. Any advice would be highly appreciated!

I was hired in the OR as a new grad and worked there for about a year before accepting a position in An ICU training program. The transition is possible, but I believe without a doubt that med surg experience would benefit you in the ICU more than OR experience. OR is just a different world and the skill set is so different than that of a med surg floor or ICU.
