I will be entering my 6th and final sem in a few months and am being asked now to select an area to do my preceptorship in (Icu, ER, MedSurg ...).
I know the final decision will be based on what slots are available, but I'd like some experienced opinions from those that have been there. For example, I really liked my time in the ER and feel it would be a great "fit" in terms of personalities and energy level, but I'm concerned that the fast-paced envmt will not give me the learning time that a MedSurg rotation would. On the other hand, it is a great place to learn clinical skills and provides the broadest exposure, so I'm told.
Has anyone done their preceptor time in the emergency dept? If so was it a good learning experience? What are some opinions of different depts?
