Ontario Second-Entry Nursing

Published

Hi Everyone!

This is super early to talk about applying to nursing school for 2016, but it's always better to be well-prepared! Let's share some thoughts and help each other out!

I am re-applying to nursing schools as I did not get in last year, and planning to enroll to more courses for pre-reqs and to increase my GPA (I graduated with a B.A.)hopefully this year will be much better and with luck!!!!

I have a few universities in mind to apply -

  1. University of Toronto
  2. York
  3. Nipissing
  4. Western
  5. Queen's
  6. McMaster

Should I apply to more? Which one should I apply? I am super eager to enter the program and I failed once, failing twice is not allowed!

Feel Free to give me suggestions or ask questions! Here is a link I found online listing most of the second entry nursing programs.

Best wishes to everyone! Good Luck!

Hi! I was apart of Macs midwifery program and we used PBL. I will be starting their nursing program in the fall. I am a shy person and I found that I liked PBL. It teaches a lot of professional skills. You have to self teach which you will do as a nurse. Also, it forces you to communicate and work as a group. It's different, but will prepare you for nursing

Thanks for the reply :) Would you mind me asking what your grades were in those PBL classes? Were the grades highly based on your individual contribution or group-based? I've heard both positives and negatives for it, but its difficult for me to decide if it will be a good fit for me (I'm shy and anxious for public speaking, but my seminar course was fine for me).

I don't remember my exact marks...but high 80s, low 90s. I think 20% of the mark was based on participation in PBL (combination of facilitator, peer and self mark). I didn't find PBL to be like public speaking. It's more of a discussion among peers. You all have the same goal in mind...to understand the material. I also found that classmates were good at encouraging quiter students to participate

Got into Western today! Still waiting on U of T. Good luck everyone :)

Congrats! if you dont mind me asking, what was your average over the last 2 years?

My average for the last to years was 87.0%. My program was Health Sciences!

Can anyone shed some light on Western's admissions process? I have a 90% 2 year average and 3.9 GPA .I've finished all my pre-reqs.

I have yet to hear back from Western or U of T and I'm going nuts !

HI does anyone know how many students are accepted per year to the accelerated nursing program at york?

Thanks! Would you say the PBL courses complemented your coursework from lectures and clinical placements well? Mac seems to have at least one each term (3-5hrs) in its curriculum, so I wonder how it will be within the overall course-load.

I found it complemented the placement I did in midwifery. I'm not sure how it works with the nuraing though. Midwifery was different...we had a four month long placement and our only course was an online PBL group every week. It was a good chance to see what everyone else was learning and to share experiences.

I'm not sure but I was put on the wait list and told that after responses from

those admitted and accept are processed then those on the wait list will be contacted. I think most accelerated programs take 75-150 students only

Just checked the My File page for York and it says I'm accepted to the program! Received no email yet, so make sure to keep checking the main sights for those who are still waiting. Haven't heard from Toronto yet though, patiently refreshing that page....

Hey everyone. I applied to UBC and UofT. I have a 3.9 GPA. I've completed 93 university credits, but not all at the same school ( at 8 universities and in 4 languages...). I was rejected from UBC, I had 1/4 (for grades) and 3/4 ( for supplemental application).

I'm still waiting to hear from UofT, but I'm getting nervous as the time goes by. I do have a lot of volunteer, travel, and research experience, but I'm worried about the appearance of my various transcripts.
