Ontario Second-Entry Nursing

Published

Hi Everyone!

This is super early to talk about applying to nursing school for 2016, but it's always better to be well-prepared! Let's share some thoughts and help each other out!

I am re-applying to nursing schools as I did not get in last year, and planning to enroll to more courses for pre-reqs and to increase my GPA (I graduated with a B.A.)hopefully this year will be much better and with luck!!!!

I have a few universities in mind to apply -

  1. University of Toronto
  2. York
  3. Nipissing
  4. Western
  5. Queen's
  6. McMaster

Should I apply to more? Which one should I apply? I am super eager to enter the program and I failed once, failing twice is not allowed!

Feel Free to give me suggestions or ask questions! Here is a link I found online listing most of the second entry nursing programs.

Best wishes to everyone! Good Luck!

Hey folks -- To those that have gotten into Mac, has anyone made a facebook group for McMaster Accelerated Nursing Class of 2018? I don't want to make one if one's already been made!

I haven't found one yet

Any Facebook group for University of Toronto students accepted??

Hey guys,

Just received an offer from York today! My overall cGPA is about 79% and my last 30 credits cGPA is 3.63. I accepted Humber's offer a while back and am now weighing the pros and cons of both programs by talking to people in each program currently. My decision seems to be going toward sticking with Humber as students in the program speak very highly of it and love the amount of clinical experience they get. I also talked to someone in the York program and she was also pushing me to go to Humber, saying it's quite reputable for nursing and definitely prepares you for the real world. She mentioned that York is more theory-based, however, she did say their Master's programs for nursing are quite reputable! Hope this helps anyone trying to make the tough decision :)

do you mind me asking what is a 79% on a york scale since their scale is a 9 point scale what number or letter grade would that be

I'm not sure how the 9 point scale works. But it's a 3.3 on a 4 point scale, equal to a B+!

Hey everyone, my status at york changed today to "waitlist"

did this happen to anyone else and what exactly does that mean? Thank you!

Just made a FB group for Toronto (not very tech savy but it's a start lol)

**wouldn't let me post the link** but it's University of Toronto Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing '18

Hi everyone, just wanted to let the hopefuls know I have just declined my offers to UofT and York in favour of a different program. Best of luck!

Hey all,

I am trying to decide between Queens and Mac! Basically trying to decide between traditional learning vs PBL. PBL makes me a little nervous only because I have not really experienced it, but the idea of it sounds fantastic! I just want to select the school that will best prepare me for this dreaded NCLEX. Does anyone have any insight on the Queens/Mac curriculums and their pass rate on the NCLEX this year?

FYI - If anyone else is like me and researches absolutely EVERYTHING before they make a decision, I found an interesting article about the pros and cons of PBL. http://www.aect.org/edtech/edition3/er5849x_c038.fm.pdf

Good Luck to everyone still waiting to hear!

I think its around 7.9

York is definitely more reputable. Especially the MScN, if you are considering to further your education in nursing which definitely helps with jobs. I've actually had friends in both the humber program and mac and from what i've seen, york and mac is a lot more reputable with actually finding a job and obtaining more information and techniques. York has some pretty good placements and are generally in the GTA region, which is nice. Everyone is really nice and is easy to get along with!

Hope this helps!
