I know it's early, but let's get a thread going. 2015-hopefuls, share your thoughts, concerns, questions, and experiences here!
@lalaleneWhat I actually meant to ask was....do I have to maintain a full time study year before applying again? or can I focus on a couple of courses and raise my avge that way? I heard some schools dont like when you are part time.
But thank you for clarifying and congratulations!
Sorry for the weird wording...I guess I was thinking too much writing that question lol.
I just finished a 5th year where I only did 3.5 courses and got into Western today with just under a 86 average. So no, doing less then full time studies shouldn't hurt your chances really. Although, Western is purely based on grades so idk how a school like york or uoft would look at it (i'm personally still waiting for U of T's decision).
@tdmah
Don't be negative. Work your ass off and finish that course ASAP! There is a chance that there will still be spots in the program wen you finish it is your work like crazy to get it done. If you think about it UofT doesn't send out their final round till June 30th. People that previously accepted Western will get accepted to UofT and cancel their acceptance to Western (I know if I get into uoft I am cancelling Western). Your average is high that you will be at the top of the wait list for Western and if you get your course finished in time you can still get into Western for Sept. They call people off the wait list into August. Read the thread from last year and the year before, students were accepted late into the summer! WORK LIKE MAD!!! Make the sacrifice of turning down hanging out with friends and getting lots of sleep. I'll buy you a beer on campus if you pull it off, I believe you can do it.
@yolandabecool
Western doesn't care if you are part time or full time. They will just calculate your average for your most recent 10 FCE and average them. However, say you have 9 FCE in your past 2 years and they need to go one more semester back to get your other FCE they will take all the marks in that semester to make your average even if your average now consists of 11FCE (Hope that makes sense). I'm not sure how other schools look at part time tho.
@fbuld87
Sounds like we are in a similar position. Congrats on your offer. If you are interested in chatting send me a private message with your facebook info or email or something and we can chat. Do you know if there is a facebook group for western nursing yet?
@ lalalene Thank you so much for writing these encouraging messages to all of us.
I am waiting on Toronto and that is ultimately where I would like to be. I didnt apply to western - but its good to know that they do not care if I take classes and not full semesters for next year.... if I have to apply again, I will attempt western.
@ yolandabecool
I am glad you find them encouraging :). I can honestly say this thread is the only thing that got me through the acceptance round last year. I honestly checked this site a million times a day. It is comforting to know that people are in the same boat as you and know what you are experiencing. I remember last year at this time I started to dislike weekends because it meant there was no chance I would hear from a school.
If you don't get in this year (and I hope you do) you should also consider York or Trent. They both have the compressed program and the average seems to be slightly lower than Western and I believe they also only consider grades. There is also University of Calgary that does a January admission for a compressed program if you don't want to wait a full year. I know it's far and would be a financial burden but I imagine it would be a pretty neat experience :)
@lalalene
I cannot explain how I relate to this. this is the only thing that keeps me from thinking the worst.
I do check this thread many times a day and read the 2014 thread when im bored. The weekends do seem to take up space in time.
I agree...western has high grade requirements. I will have a broader look into other programs...I am a rookie with these applications. Calgary will be an adventure and a half...never know where life will take you.
Has anyone heard from York recently? I e-mailed them two days ago and still have not gotten a response
i e-mailed them yesterday and i just received their reply. i asked them when they'll be sending out another round of acceptances and the cutoff gpa they're currently accepting. unfortunately, all they said was "no cut off gpa has been determined yet as we have a rolling admissions that is ongoing". sighh

That sounds very ambiguous & frustrating lol. I just hope they don't make it some impossible cut off
im an external applicant too, i really hope we can get a response soon. i just went through last year's york 2014 forum and most people received their acceptances in april-late may (around this time). by early june, some people posted that the program was full. hope they're just slow this year.anybody heard from uoft lately?
York's nursing program was technically "full" by June, but people were accepted from the wait list up until September! I know the wait is horrible, but hang in there!
