Hey, I used to creep these forums for the past few years and they helped affirm my decision to apply to nursing school for Fall 2020. I didn't see one started for next year so I thought, why not start one?
I graduated a while back so I'm a bit older, but my top three choices are:
1. Queen's
2. McMaster
3. York
4. Humber-UNB
While GPA is a part of the admission requirement, UofT really takes a holistic approach to the application itself. Even in last year people with 4.0 or 3.8+ have been rejected and most cases it was personal statement/reference letter related. UofT especially values statements a lot as it is the only outlet for them to see what kind of vision, purpose, and mindset the applicant has in order to become a successful nurse (while it can have its own skew as well). You can definitely achieve more with 4.0 GPA but in the end it really depends on the school to see through yourself as a successful applicant, with many other outlets such as reference letter, casper, interview, etc.
@fantasygirl123 you definitely have a strong background and GPA - as you said I would highly recommend working on your statement so it shows how your background can support you to become a better nurse! This year isn't the only year. I am sure you will make it next year.
@bluebellx im sorry to hear that. your GPA is definitely in a stronger range, dont get discouraged! if you are worried that its your prereq, defiintely loop back with the faculty to see if that was the deciding factor. best of luck to your future endeavour

That's unreal and unfair tbh. So sorry dude, your application looks really strong. I hope everything is well with you and that you get in next year ?
Thank you very much I truly appreciate this ❤️ However, at the time of application my GPA for the last 5 was a 3.45, it became a 4.0 when my Winter grades came in as at the time of application they probably used the second term of my third year. I'm not sure if they considered my final transcript that I sent in Mid may there's a high chance they also did not look at it.

I would request clarification. I’m so so sorry to hear that. And I wish you the best in all your future endeavours. Someone like you is clearly a hard worker and you will get somewhere even after this small set back. Keep your head up. Maybe something Better is in store for you.
definitely connect with the university to see why that happened. Because that’s a perfect GPA literally. Were all the pre reqs golden?
My cgpa is a 3.4 as my grandma passed away in my first year which terribly ruined my first year GPA, but my GPA for my final year is a 4.0 ? Thanks so much for your nice words. My pre-reqs were okay, I did repeat one anatomy course, and one of my social science pre-reqs was a C- so to improve that I decided to take an anthro course this Summer and do a lot better in it so I can use that as my pre-req grade. My other Pre-reqs were in the B to A+ range. Also I submitted my application two days before the deadline and after looking at it again, there was a lot of things I could of improved on. Based on tips from others, these tips may help any of you guys if you are applying again. So for the supplementary:
-try to make the first question personal, start of with something interesting like a personal experience that got you interested in healthcare
-include the time length of each of your community involvements, volunteering, research, etc. and include the name of the place and location and talk about what you did and how it helped you foster different skills related to nursing
-talk about every single thing you did even if you think it doesn't count, (for example, talk about your involvement in volleyball intramurals or even attending a conference)
-you can also talk about clubs and things you were involved in during high school
@fantasygirl123 aw im sorry the news is unfortunate... yes uoft takes GPA at the time of application ? final transcript is only to confirm the outstanding requirements..
the good news is, you now have an awesome 4.0 GPA and can build a stronger statement!! I didn't have a stellar GPA but I banked on my supplementary and worked on it an entire semester and asked 6 of my friends to revise it. I think this was literally the biggest factor that aided my application. take a good rest during the Summer, you definitely deserve it after a long wait. I am sure next year you will become an even more awesome applicant and make it. feel free to message me if you have any question about my statement!! lots of love and support for you!

thank you very much for your kind words ? I will take this as a learning opportunity and fix my application over the Summer.

Thank you so much you're too kind! I made a terrible error of rushing my supplementary app and not expanding on my experiences or getting it revised. CONGRATS on your offer I'm sure you'll be an amazing nurse ❤️ Good luck with all your future endeavours.

My GPA for the last 5.0 credits was a 4.0 and my ec's include: 5 years of volunteering at the hospital (three hospitals including a coop placement and 4 other departments), going on a brigade trip, being a research volunteer and completing a research placement, publishing an article, being a residence advisor, being a mentor for international students, and being a swim instructor. However, I made the mistake of not writing my supplementary application well at all. I did not expand on any of my experiences or how they connected to nursing nor did I state the length of time I participated in each experience. Good luck to those still waiting, and if you are in the same boat as me take it as an opportunity to learn and grow and also use this year to increase your experiences and make your application even stronger.
Hey, that's so unfortunate to hear. I hope all the best for you. I also got rejected as well. I was waitlisted last year and now rejected. GPA last 10 credits were 3.7 ... ECs: did a thesis my last year of uni, I work in the Emergency department and a retirement home as a clerk for a year and now as a coordinator for another year that involves the flow of imaging studies and work alongside radiology and ER MDs....I am not going to lie I am in shock. I got into trent which I already accepted but still uoft was my top choice. I also got waitlisted at queens. Nothing back from York or western. My supplemental was not different but I expanded what I do now... but what can I do this is how it is and we just have to move forward. Have you heard from other schools?

Hi for western they said if you haven’t heard back at the end of July 15th you can email them for an update
For the folks that did not get into their desired school choices/get in anywhere at all and would still like to start nursing school soon instead of waiting till next fall, the University of Calgary and St Francis Xavier will be accepting for Jan 2021 and have deadlines in September. The University of Ottawa will also be accepting applications till December 1st for May 2021! I know these schools may not appeal to you but I just thought I would let you know just in case!
Good luck to all!

Thank you for this post although I'm sorry it's in this context. After reading your post I checked on my portal and I also had refused admission. My GPA for last 5.0 credits (including Winter sem that just passed) was 3.8; GPA for last 5.0 not including Winter sem was around 3.3. My ECs were volunteering at a hospital for 3 years, various research assistant positions, 2 pending publications, research scholar trip, mentor for new undergraduate students, president of a club etc. My GPA wasn't that high which might've been why I was refused, but also I used an interdisciplinary course to meet the social science pre-requisite which I'm not sure whether they accepted
