Hello,
Both my girlfriend and I are graduating this year and were offered jobs at our local hospital in southern Ontario. Because we will have part-time status we do not have health coverage. Therefore, we both would like to find health coverage, but do not know who the best company would be to go with?
I'm aware I could see what the hospital has to offer and possibly ask if I can pay into coverage through them, however, I'm wondering if there are other companies that will offer better deals/coverage?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

It's unlikely the hospital will have any coverage, but you could ask. In Canada the government takes care of health care.
Perhaps your US insurance company will continue to cover you in Canada? Otherwise I know Blue Cross has Canadian offices, and they probably could tell you more.
I think you're in the wrong forum.
I'm from Ontario, working in Ontario and looking to purchase a benefits package.
Anyone else?

So, you are obviously talking EXTENDED health coverage here, for things that OHIP doesn't cover, like prescriptions, eyeglasses, etc.?
I don't have any personal knowledge or experience with this, but hopefully a poster will come by who does.
P.S. - Please do not post duplicate threads. (I have deleted the duplicates.) (Since you are new to the forums, I am assuming this was most likely an accident...) :)

Through ONA there is insurance coverage available, but I can't remember the company. However, it doesn't seem like a very good deal-there is a $1200 a year limit on drugs and a $10,000 lifetime. I forget how much it is per month. Also if you have a pre-existing condition i.e. diabetes it is hard if not impossible to get without being part of a group plan. Your employer may very well let you join by paying both your and their cost. It may be expensive but it is important but you never know when you are going to get sick.
Yes that is correct.
Can anyone help me out?

You could thry ONA. I know a company called Greenshields may help. I suggest you ask your local insurance agent, who sells many types of insurance what they may have to offer.

How part time are you? My contract offers benefits to anyone with a .4FTE position.
Also check with your union, sometimes they have things that we don't know about until we ask...

I am in South-Western Ontario-when I was part-time I looked into benefits. The ones offered through ONA were crazy for what I needed. Once I had 1500 hours worked at the hospital I was able to buy into their plan and it was quite reasonable. Cannot remember all the details as it was some time ago but it was good. I went FT shortly thereafter. Look into the hospital where you are hired and see what they are willing to offer you and when.
Good luck
