Comment below your points if you are applying to the Summer 2018 nursing cohort at UNLV

I have faith that you guys will do great! The program is tough but it is very rewarding. Im glad I chose to go to Unlv for nursing. You guys will get more information at signing and orientation as well :) I'm glad to help because I had so many questions when I first started too lol

I can't wait! Thank you once again!

Does anyone know of any flexible jobs that i can work while in nursing school??

I would recommend not working if you have that option. Just heard from others its just almost impossible if you want to do well. Also whoever mentioned the groupme idea I would like to do that too.

Does anyone know of any flexible jobs that i can work while in nursing school??

I currently work on campus as a student assistant, and it is a necessity to have work for me so I will most likely keep my job depending on my schedule. I work as a student assistant in one of the departments on campus and I love my job. It is not hard at all and you have the chance to study at work if it is not busy, which usually is not. But the wage is around the minimum wage.

But if you have the choice not to work,do not work. I would say at least see how your first semester goes first.

I think ill rake the 1st semester off and see how it goes amd if i feel i have time to work then ok. Thank you guys and for the gropme idea sounds good too.

How was the first contract signing?? What did you guys do??

Sorry I barely saw the comment. I'm pretty sure you already went to yours as well lol. It got me alil nervous but mostly excited to start already. Idk if they said it for the other contract signing but for the orientation they said to dress business casual because they will be taking our picture.

Congratulations Summer '18 cohort! I just set up my BSN signing session for this June. Fingers crossed I get in.

I have a question for y'all if you don't mind humoring me for a moment. What is the out of pocket cost you guys have had to come up with. I understand some have scholarships, loans, etc., so all totals will differ, but what is the tuition cost for the classes for the first semester and what is the cost of all the "extras"? (Like books, scrubs, stethoscope, etc....) Someone in my stats class today was telling me that after you get your acceptance call, the advisors tell you to bring a credit card with you to your orientation. If there is X amount I will need to come up with almost immediately, I would like to have a general idea that way I can plan accordingly (assuming I get in for this fall).

Thank you in advance, and congratulations!!!

I believe that in the signing session you have to sign a paper that gives u an estimate about how much each semester is which is around 6,000 per semester just in tuition. My balance for summer is around 6,200 but since I did not use all of my financial aid money during spring and fall, it'll cover around half, so I only have to pay out of pocket around 3,000. They told us the books tend to be the most expensive during the 1st semester but it'll lower throughout the following semesters because we'll use some of the books throughout the semester so it's less books to purchase for the following semester. Right now the print plus the ebook is around 609 and the ebook alone is around 356. They did inform us that there is a scholarship for books that is worth $300 but im not sure how they select the students for that scholarship, maybe it random. For the contract signing your only going to pay for your 3 pairs of scrubs and your background check plus the drug screen. I believe I paid around 180 for my scrubs which is probably the most you'll pay because I choose the cargo scrub pants which are more expensive than the regular scrub pants that don't have pockets on the sides. I also did not purchase the lab coat because it was optional and dont really need it. The background check plus the drug screen is around 90 or 100 (i really dont remember) and the drug screen you need to do it at the place you choose on the computer. They will also be giving you more information during your contract signing about the program. As of right now I've only bought my shoes, 2 pen lights, 2 trauma shears, and a whitecoat nurses edition clipboard. A nursing student told us that we dont need to buy a stethoscope so i'm assuming they'll provide one for us. Since I will be starting my 1st semester in the nursing program this summer, this is all the information I have. Hope it helped!!!
