TWU Fall 2017 Nursing Applicants

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi all,

I've decided to go ahead and start this thread for those who are in the process of applying for the HIGHLY COMPETITIVE nursing program at TWU (FALL 2017) Feel free to share your STATS, questions, and good vibes as we're all here to get accepted!

I'm personally interested in the Night/weekend program since I already have a bachelor's degree and I just finished my TWU application (since TWU requires you submit a "new student" application first, then the Nursing application) I am planning on submitting my nursing application right after I hear back..

I also have not yet taken my TEAS, but am in the process of studying for it to take in a couple weeks!

How's everyone else doing?

Your stats are good. I would only retake it if I knew for a FACT that i would do better than before b/c they take your most recent score NOT your highest. Also calculate ur points on their website. What did u use to study for the TEAS? Im taking it this months any tips?

@Divine_17 I purchased the ATI book and the exams. Only studied for two weeks and that was the outcome. Good luck!

PSA: I've seen some posts on here saying they have 50+ points WITHOUT the TEAS scores, which is not possible. Look closely and make sure that the number at the bottom of your Excel spreadsheet is a positive number. If you have NOT entered your TEAS scores yet, you should not have a positive number.

Using the current Excel spreadsheet (access it here Current & Prospective Students - TWU College of Nursing - Texas Woman's University under "Baccalaureate GPA Worksheet), here are some examples:

BEFORE adding TEAS scores:

GPA: 4.0

Prior bachelor's? YES

TWU Preference? YES

TEAS Scores: [blank]

Points: -51.33

GPA: 4.0

Prior bachelor's? NO

TWU Preference? NO

TEAS Scores: [blank]

Points: -65.33

AFTER adding TEAS scores

(calculated using a composite score of 88%):

GPA: 4.0

Prior bachelor's? YES

TWU Preference? YES

TEAS Scores: 88 Composite [88 Reading, 88 Math, 88 Science, 88 English]

Points: 66

GPA: 4.0

Prior bachelor's? NO

TWU Preference? NO

TEAS Scores: 88 Composite [88 Reading, 88 Math, 88 Science, 88 English]

Points: 52

It's also important that you make sure to put your scores for each section of the TEAS into the spreadsheet. Only putting your composite/overall score won't change your points value. For the above example, to make it easy I put 88 for each section to get the point values, but as long as each of your sections together have an overall average of 88%, it will be the same value. As in, if I changed the above scores to 88 Reading, 90 Math, 86 Science, 88 English, it would come out the be the same, since the composite score would still be 88%. Also, don't put the % sign into the spreadsheet! Just put the numbers.

Also, make sure you're putting your credit hours in the the right column under "Sem. Hours". If you didn't take the class at TWU, put it in the "Trans" column under "Sem. Hours". Your spreadsheet should not say "TWU Preference: YES" if you haven't taken all of your pre-reqs at TWU.

Hopefully this clears some things up! Good luck everyone!!

Edit: I really, really hope this didn't come off shi*ty (fun fact: allnurses censors curse words! haha) because that is 100% not my intention at all! I just personally would hate to think I had like 63 points and go rock my TEAS only to input my scores into the spreadsheet and see a lower points value than I expected. My goal in posting this was to be helpful, not discouraging and/or belittling to anyone whatsoever. I hope we all make it and wish everyone reading this the best of luck!

@Ronilc09 I did not have a single earth science question as well, mainly a&p like you said. To study though, it was mainly review for me as I already took a&p 1 and 2 and did well in those classes. I really just used my old anatomy text book and watched a ton of khan Academy videos. I studied for the science portion for about 2-3 weeks for 3 hours a day. Hope that helps!

Calculated my points and here are my STATS finally- :)

Nursing Core GPA: 3.9

TEAS: 90.7%

Previous Bachelor's in Speech Language

No Previous TWU Coursework

63.97 Pts on the TWU excel sheet (hoping I filled it out correctly!)

I'm still deciding whether to apply to evening/ weekend or traditional program. Would anyone mind sharing their views on each program and why they chose either one?

Thank you

@StethoscopesMarilyn GIRL those are some awesome stats!

I applied last week (to Dallas) and my stats are:

Nursing core GPA: 3.72

TEAS: 92.7

Previous Bachelors

No TWU bump

59.5 points total

Good luck everyone! Does anyone know when we'll hear anything?

How can we verify if our TeAS scores were received? Should it be on our portal?

What campus did you apply to?

How can we verify if our TeAS scores were received? Should it be on our portal?

I did not see it in my portal, so I called Houston (where I applied) and was directed to speak with the Denton Campus (they process all applications), they were very polite and helpful.

Hi guys!

I'm applying as well for Fall 2017

My stats

GPA: Nursing core 3.84, Pre-Req: 3.86

TEAS 90.1%

Score:50.07

I submitted my application last night and am hoping for the best. I'm super nervous, but wishing you all the best. Hope to you see guys there. I will be scheduling my HESI within the next two weeks to apply to UTHSC. Either school would be amazing to go to.

Just sent my application in. Applying to TWUHouston

My stats are as followed.........

Nursing core- 4.0GPA

Pre-requisite- 3.8GPA

Teas- 84%

Prior BS from Texas A&M

😀😀😀😀

I've also completed all prerequisites. So I guess I'm also twu preference as well?

"The TWU Preference blank will only read Yes” for students who have completed 32 or more prerequisite hours (16 hours for post-baccalaureate students) at TWU."

FYI, instructor at Houston campus told us that over 650 applied. Our class has 100 people. Do not assume that a ratio of 6 people for 1 seat means anybody gets in. Still need very high grades and TEAS scores.
